Gords stuff for LIGHTHEADS
OK...never seen this before...
Golf Shirts and T-shirts with GORDism
Blackberry wine
You know that I'm nogood without you
Carefree Highway
Now the thing that I call living is just being satisfied
With knowing I got no one left to blame
Early Morning Rain
You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train
So I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain
Can it be done...I'd buy them.

Re: Gords stuff for LIGHTHEADS
Not legally if you make them for sale. I believe you can write anything you want on a t-shirt if it's just for you. Heck you could even tattoo the lyrics to Ode To Big Blue on your bicep if you cared to, or maybe not... You would probably get a cease and desist notice from EMP but that would cost you an arm and a leg, or at least an arm.
Sorry - I'm at work - training a new associate and I've got nothing left for today, LOL.

Re: Gords stuff for LIGHTHEADS
JohnStinson,
Other than the music and books Gordon has written (as well as some things I am too tired to remember), there is no marketable merchandise. No hats, shirts, or jackets that EMP sells. Yes, you are free to make anything for your self but you can not sell anything. My husband and I make buttons and share with friends. I have a couple awesome Gordon Lightfoot purses. They are one a kinds made special for me. My friend, Kathy made a very special jacket that Gordon and all the men in the orchestra have signed. I have seen other people wearing special Lightfoot shirts.
It is not legal to make and then sell anything that has Gordon's picture or likeness. EMP ownes all the rights. Maybe we will meet during GordQuest 2008 and I can give you a button.
Good luck and best wishes for a wonderful New Year.
DSR

DSR - the jacket must be really awesome. I would LOVE to see it!!! Would you be able to take a photo and post it here?
Gordon Lightfoot purses, hmmmmm....I just can't get a picture in my head of what these would look like. This is what comes to mind for me:
They have elegant, "Cold On the Shoulder" straps
They are embellished with "14 Karat Gold"
One is made from 'old gray socks'...dyed a purplish color, which ended up a hue more like something "Approaching Lavender"
Another is 'green -dark forest' and there's a "Ribbon of Darkness" sewn onto the "Cold On the Shoulder" strap
And if you can't decide which to use -throw caution to the 'wicked wind' and use all of them! Then you can be 'all decked out like a rainbow trout'

Pam:
The "Kathy" with the jacket that DSR is referring to is me. I'll send you pix of it. One DSR's purses was made by a friend of hers from an LP and its jacket... it's really cool!! The other one I made for her. It's a canvas tote on which I embroidered a picture of Gordon. And now it has his autograph on it too. I must make you one !

Kathy #1 -I knew it had to be you! hehe You're so very creative/talented [and so very kind, thoughtful ] And here I am, a home ec (aka, "domestic science" PTHFLAH) near-flunky ("C"). And I spent many hours and worked very, very hard for that grade!!
I'll look forward to seeing pix of these!

Re: Gords stuff for LIGHTHEADS
I found this T-shirt in a drawer a couple of years ago..I don't recall buying it back in the 70's nor do I recall making it..but I'm glad I have it..daughter Lisa is the model..She wore it while doing her presentation/powerpoint in high school a few years ago. (she had just had 4 wisdom teeth removed a few days earlier and was on pain meds.) She's done many a project about Lightfoot over the years..
There seems to be a lot of resource material hanigng around the house..

Because the songs are copyright protected -this can't be done. Names can't be copyright protected though and is why the "I Got Gordon Lightfoot" merchandise can be sold.

Hi Char,
You are right. In Indiana last year a nice couple had the words to one of Gordon's songs (I don't remember which one), on it. They had them made and everyone thought there were wonderful, including Gordon and Barry.
I hope to meet you next month.

That is so cute! Your daughter is adorable and that's pretty kewl for her to do research/presentations about Lightfoot. An interesting subject/topic, of course!
Well at least you can date the t-shirt terminus post quem from the photo. I'd love to do something like that with some photos I took of Gordon...and it would be fun to quote exerpts from his songs. Again, not to sell of course.
One day, we may find these vintage, homemade objects for sale on ebay!

wonderful pic of Lis and that cool shirt, Char
great looking 4some shot with Gord
can’t make out the middle 2 guys shirt lyrics but far right is obviously from DSMMN
with gal on the left sporting EMR lyrics - thought a Shadows lyric would have been cute
first time I spotted Mr Fowles he was in fashion with one of the fabled CYC black Tshirts
don’t believe there was protest from GL nor dear, late BH - rather it was the border police
there must be "Gord stuff" pics archived at the newsgroup or on retired hard drives
great revival of merchandising ideas, JStinson, over the years the clever fans have developed GL board games, clocks, handbags, wine, syrup, shirts, even a twisted CVS product line
Char may still have the Gord’s Back Tshirt photo, handy (from Mariposa) - my fave

JJ - A while back, perhaps as long ago as the original 'Yahoo' newsgroup we would try to make a "Massey" T-shirt for that particular year's concert. (sadly this project only lasted a few years). Ideas for a theme would be submitted and voted upon and a Lightfoot shirt would be made for that particular year. I believe these wonderful creations were coordinated and manufactured by Lighthead Kimberly P. All of my 'Massey' shirts have been cleaned and tucked away in my vault. I have a collection of the shirt designs as well (you should see some of the fantastic rejects!!). But as I have them archived somewhere in the bowels of my upstairs office and because of my condition, I'm stuck on the lower floor and can't retrieve them at this time. I did find one of the designs (see 2002 below). Not only did these shirts raise envious eyebrows at the concerts, they served another purpose. If you ran into someone wearing "the shirt" on Yonge Street or elsewhere, you knew right away they were a 'Lighthead' from the newsgroup. Even having met that person for the very first time, you knew you were RTG ( Related Through Gord) and became immediate friends. No doubt that Gord was aware of these shirts and as they were for personal use and not sold for profit, I'm certain he didn't mind. It's a tradition which I would love to see revived.
Yuri

Re: Gords stuff for LIGHTHEADS
thanks in sharing for others, Yuri - yeah, I recall it was Kim who pulled that year’s together
interesting, I wasn’t involved in the Yahoo groups - I was online in early 90s (in my AOL days, agh) but for my own commercial purposes and didn’t divert to fan sites til mid 90s when the Wayne and the newsgroup kicked in - I was really just looking for some lyric clarifications
I remember Darin, Andy, etc’s efforts with the 1999 convention shirts, mine was nearby so I’ve attached pics here - no need for Cathy’s hunting upstairs, for that year’s version anyhow
and I (+ son) do recall meeting you very briefly at the Walt’s Beanery/Eatery gathering, cheers
