James and Mary
I have previously vented my feelings to Mary about the stoopid myspace "system" and here follows a cleaned up version of a reply I have just sent James as a PM from corfid rather than age even more using myfrigginspace. Other cordidentials beware therefore.
Forgive me for replying here rather than directly in myxceedinglystoopidspace.Sorry that system will drive me nuts very soon.Sure I got an email telling me
"Suberman has posted a new comment about you on MySpace!
Click the link below to read your comment:
http://collect.myspace.com/reloc.cfm?c=7&id=!!1Axc$ek1123"
but when I tried clicking that link as usual I was deposited nowhere near where your comment was and had to waste 10 minutes f...ing around before I finally found your message and I still do not know how I did so or where I went wrong in the first place so I simply said life is to short and the corfid system is easy peasy.
Another major gripe is that I run MSN Messenger and am always signed into MSN Passport using my hotmail email address and its usual password and there is a useful link on the MSN Messenger display showing how many unread emails I have in that account and clicking on it opens my inbox there is another link to mysillyspace so I naturally assumed it was a further part of the MSN/hotmail/MSN Passport system. Oh no it ruddy well ain't for some damn fool reason to sign in to myhighfallutingspace requires my hotmail address plus a password that must contain at least one sodden silly number which my regular password does not though quite why that should be is too much for my old brain to fathom
Cheers anyway
John in New Jersey
You got a problem with that??

My kids use myspace and are always complaining that it's too slow, even with high speed Internet. I think it probably has something to do with too many users, not enough server space. It seems to be getting worse all the time.
I know it's the big thing with the younger generation. I just don't get into it. I have all I can do to keep up with this place!

Do you know their usernames? Maybe I can add them to friends.
(Yes, depending on the time of day, it can be very, very slow , even with high-speed Net.)

I don't have a clue what their user names are. I just hear Dan saying, "@#%*& this website is so @#%&$@*# slow."

Their names are Matt Thompson (23yrs) and Dan Thompson (21yrs). Maybe you can find them by running a search on their names.

I tried searching them, but there are too many people with those names registered on that site.

Does it say where they're from? Mine are from Presque Isle and Portland (possibly Gorham) Maine.

I'm a member but rarely visit the site. I was there tonight and looking over a thread about the rock band Chicago and there's all this with 1 member telling another to f---- off and whatever. They say they have a policy off personal attacks and even though it is a a big site with a lot of members but I wonder if they don't do enough? That Retroland site I posted here sometime back, there's a lot of people who say stupid things and the moderators just allow it to go on.

It's next to impossible to monitor what's being said between the tens of thousands of members.
I think eventually, My Space will have to get a handle on it, or will be forced to shut down, because a lot of sexual predators are on the loose, trying to find their next victim.

Mr. Fowles, et.al.,
When I clicked on the "link" to a "message from Suberman", it sent me to my very own myspace site.
I don't know if anyone here has experienced that same result. If so, I will be relieved. If not, perhaps the link was corrrupted, or this spiderweb called myspace is out of control.
I have no idea why the link would send me to a place I can visit any time. I assure you, it's not of mydoing.
Please tell me (as John Prine wrote "same thing, same thing happened to me")

Oh boy....
I am totally embarassed to admit that I overlooked the dates of the posts. I thought it was a new thread. But no... it's about 4 months old. Therefore, please disregard my lack of attention to details. As Gilda Radner used to say....."Nevermind"
However, I do wonder if it is possible to have the newest posts displayed first, and/or the dates displayed more prominently.
That "link" is still eerie though.

PM me your name, and I'll add you to my friends list.
Don't post on the forums on myspace, though. Unless being flammed does not bother you one bit in the least, don't even go there. (Usually, flamming doesn't get to me, but they came close whenever I posted a few times on those forums. )

I wish they'd close down sites like My Space. It's nothing but a hunting ground for sleazy men!

Borderstone,
I don't know who "they" are, but I do agree that the site has received an extraordinary amount of negative publicity. My local newspaper has carried a lot of horror stories about the site. I really don't know, but I doubt that the founders of the concept were "sleazy old men". Like anything else, it will be what the people make it.
I wish we didn't need law enforcement, courts, the military, or money for that matter. That's just for starters....

Even though Cathy has a very good point about how hard it is to look through everything on a forum with so many people I think 1 who sets them up needs to consider that there are a lot of crazy people out there who are going to say bad things or even go beyond that and if you don't have the resources, the means or the will to handle things then one should't even bother with it. Maybe 1 needs to limit how many people can join, not that I"d wish to do that but what can you do unless you have enough moderators.
And of course there are those who just don't care period.

There are plenty of mods on the site, but you're right, though. I've had several people try to lure me as well, but I know how to handle them.

Affair on Touhy,
Your points are well taken. I limit myself to the Music section, where I can present my music and discover other(and much more talented) artists.
I have yet to venture into the forums there, so I'm
going on hearsay, rather than first hand experience. But with all the raps on their reputation, I do agree that more oversight should be a no-brainer.
Or...it could be that a rather high percentage of our population has evolved into "sleazy old men".

Thanks Charlene,
Evaluation underway......
Another note about myspace....I received a "friend" request from a member of this forum today. I will presume them to be innocent, so I will not disclose their name. It seems most of their contributions have been reasonable. Whatever their screen name is, the poster was extremely juvenile. The request went from (BLANK) to "dug tha thug" wants to be your friend.
Ridiculous

I'm registered and have a MySpace account, but have never set up my site nor do I respond to requests I get via email to let me know that someone has posted a message to me or wants to be my friend. The only reason I got an account is because a lot of our performers use MySpace and I need to access their accounts in order to get their bios and promo photos. A lot of those types of things are only available to members. Those are the only MySpace sites I've visited.

I recently cancelled my site. I originally went on there in the hope of posting some of my music but I don't like what I read about them and I don't like that they do nothing to protect children from what I can see. If anything, they exploit kids. I made sure I told them the reason I was cancelling as well.
