Can you imagine looking out your living room picture window and seeing a moose looking in? That happened to my younger sister when she was 12 years old. It was potato harvest season, and she wasn't old enough to work on a harvester, so she took a job picking potatoes for a neighbor. It had started raining, enough to stop the hand crews from working, but those with harvesters were able to keep going, so she was home alone at the time. She screamed, grabbed the phone, hid in the cellar way and called a neighbor, who said, "No way am I coming over there and walking right past that thing!"
At the time, moose were on the endangered species list, so seeing one up close was a rare thing. It's sure not like that now. There are so many of them, it's actually dangerous to drive at night, especially during autumn, when they come out of the woods to look for food. In fact, an old woman hit one just last week. She managed to live through it, but got seriously hurt.
