Maybe Gordon Lightfoot should sing more Waylon Jennings songs.
I have Waylon's, "Heartaches by the Number" and Other Country Favorites album where he sings his (That's What You Get) For Lovin' Me.

I have the vinyl copy. 1972, RCA Records,
and Happy Friday the 13th to all you mothers out there.

Of course he should continue, but wouldn't it be nice to hear him sing something by Waylon? He sang Dylan's "Ring Them Bells" song. That was alright.

I like him singing anything, but, I listen to him because he sings Gordon Lightfoot songs. Ring them Bells, I think, is a tribute to his friend and he does a great job with it. But he does a fantastic job with his own material. I could listen Gord sing the phone book and think it is Grammy material but, I like the stories he tells us.

Gord has recorded Kris K. too but I still prefer to hear him sing Lightfoot, who is after all, the Best.
(Personally, I dont like Ring them Bells. Sorry, Patti.)

Duh, I know Gordon is the best - what do you think I am, chopped liver?
(Personally, I do like Ring Them Bells, and I'm not sorry).

Are you related to DMD, by any chance. I think it is the phrasing that reminds me of him.

I think Gord singing Waylon's a great idea,as long as he doesn't attempt the "Dukes of Hazzard" theme!!

"Just a good old Gord!"
"Singing strong singing warm!"
"Beats all ya ever saw, been harmonizing now, since they day he was born!" :D

Makin' his way, they only way he knows how!"
That's the way it should be and now he,will take a bow!"

While not exactly on topic, I did listen to A Prairie Home Companion yesterday, on which appeared a female trial wonderfully named The Wailin' Jennings.

Although they sang Bring Me Little Water, Sylvie, perfectly, the moment would have been perfect had they sequed into Ring Them Bells (just to stir up the post-pot a bit.)

I heard them on Prairie Home Companion, also. Just wonderful harmonies; they could have segued into lots of different things--something gospel, something bluegrass, something Celtic...it all would have worked. Ring Them Bells would have been a natural, too.

I heard the Wailin' Jennings on A Prairie Home Companion as well this past weekend. Those ladies sing so well they could sing listings from the phone book and it would sound great!

Garrison Keillor is taping APHC at the Hollywood Bowl next month. I was debating whether or not to get tickets until I found who his guest would be - Leo Kottke. My fellow guitarists on this board will understand how that made my decision an easy one!

Waylon Jennings appears to have been quite a Lightfoot fan. He had a country hit with his cover of "For Lovin' Me," and he also recorded "Long Way Back Home" and "Same Old Loverman." The Waylon Jennings song I would like to hear GL sing is "Whistlers and Jugglers," which, like "On Susan's Floor" was written by Shel Silverstein. Great song. Also, "Dreaming My Dreams With You" would suit GL very well.

Has anyone heard Alison Krauss's version of Dreaming My Dreams? I love it!
