My daughter checked-out the Anne Murray "What a Wonderful World" 2CD set from the library today. They have been advertising the heck out of it on cableTV in the States, and I always wanted to order. It's really nice..."26 Inspirational Classics" done with her clear as Canadian mountain spring water voice! I put six songs on my hard-drive "Let It Be"(Beatles), "I Believe in You"(Dylan), "I Can See Clearly Now", "Put A Little Love in Your Heart", How Great Thou Art", and "Bridge Over Troubled Water". See can really sing!

Tom - she's got a great voice doesn't she? The East Coast Music Awards are giving her a special honour pretty soon - She's from a beautiful little place - Springhill, Nova Scotia and she's another small town Canadian talent that made it big but stayed home. She has lived n Toronto since making it big but that east coast girl still comes through.

I let my parents borrow the Anne Murray CD. My dad, who will be 79 in May, stayed up late making 2 cassettes! He really likes Anne Murray. I did give him the "Waiting For You" Gordon Lightfoot CD for his birthday a few years back. He still enjoys good music.
P.S. I won't be posting as often due to planning a move to Florida soon. After I get settled in I hope to post more often in July.

I really like Anne Murray! Remember 'Destiny'? I saw her when she
played the London Palladium - she had her
younger brother on back up vocals. They
were great together. Has she semi retired?
Sometimes Kathy Mattea reminds me of her.
Just a passing thought. Bring back ANnie
Murray!

Anne still performs - she does a lot of charity concerts for different causes. One that she is very deeply involved with is for eating disorders. Her daughter Dawn was anorexic/bulimic a few years back due to the pressures of being the kid of a star and her parents sham of a marriage. She was treated in a clinic and had a pretty tough go of it. She has sung on a few songs of her mum's in the recent past and on stage with her as well. She sounds like her mum and is a beautiful girl. She's beaten the demons and is doing quite well.

Ive been lucky enough to see her twice, both times in little auditoriums. you know she can be one funny lady. i saw her in Evansville, IN she told us that during the 70's she came to Evansville and she brought her kid along and he took his first steps in E'ville so she would never forget our town kinda cool I think

I have never seen Anne in concert but I used to see her as a semi-regular on the
"Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour". She has a pleasant mid-range voice and it was interesting to see her seated between Glen and Jerry Reed who would sometimes trade guitar licks with one another while Anne sat there playing rhythm. On the flip side of the 45rpm "Snowbird" was another Gene MacLellan song called "Just Bidin' My Time". I like that as much as "Snowbird".

This is a little scary. "Just Bidin' My Time" is my favorite song on the Snowbird album. I still pull out the vinyl and listen to it often, it's a beautiful song.

Charlene.....what's this about "a sham of a marriage" regarding Anne Murray?
I've really enjoyed her music and her personna for ages and always assumed her domestic situation was as smooth as her performances. It sounds like I was in error. She has a son and a daughter, correct? Can you give me any details?

When Dawn (Anne's daughter) told her mum she had an eating disorder the therapy brought out all kinds of things in all of their relationships. The main one was the hiding of problems in their marriage from the kids. He was drinking I believe and they were just going through the motions for many years. The kids were aware of it and Dawn internalized it and like kids will do, felt it was partially her fault. Besides being the daughter of a famous, beautiful person and all that that adds she had her parents marriage problems to deal with. They were both on many shows a couple of years ago speaking about it. Thankfully a quick intervention and time spent in therapy have helped and Dawn is okay. Unfortunately it brought about the demise of the marriage.

"Turning back the pages,to the topics I have missed!" "I wonder if you'll respond again!" (A-gayn)
Just checked this one out and I really like Annne Murray as well, although all i have is "Country" and her greatest hits LP. She kinda depresses me when I listen to,"You Needed Me" which used to actually make me cry when I was a kid.
One of her greatest under-appreciated songs,is the late '80s,"Now and Forever (You and Me)". Although it has that 80s AOR syth. and voice echo,it's still good enough that I bought and still have my copy of it,even though it wasn't a top 40 hit for her. Kind of like Gordon's,"Anything For Love".
I'm not to keen on her cover versions, especially, yes,Gordon's<"Cotton Jenny". Slower, sung in female POV and the lyrics about the south deleted,it's just not the same. Sorry Anne! Love your singingbut it's better when the song is an original.
Been me,later! ..and oh,did anyone ever see her appearance on The Muppet Show? Later!

Actually, I made a post or two a few months after Gord's illness.I'm a very devoted fan. My sister, brother and I have seen Gord about 10 times in concert and are lucky to know some of the band members enough to always get backstage. I remember Barry telling us about his Anne Murray connection and how much he enjoys working with her.

If you ever come to see him in Phoenix,AZ could you help me get backstage too? I know I met him and got signatures and all in 2002 but I'd still like to meet him & the band for more than just a few minutes. Really talk with them on a deeper level.
Boy,10 times in concert? You lucky! Sometimes I regret not discovering his music sooner, because there's no doubt in my mind I'd have seen his show at least once a year from whenever I would have started. Been me,Aurevoir!
