Calling all quiz fans. Help.

I have been trying to complete a 60 question quiz, for charity. I have cracked 58 questions. 2 answers are elluding me, can anyone help.

The quiz takes an odd format:

Under Literature 1984 b GO = 1984 by George Orwell.

C22 b JH = Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.

My problem question here is: N2000 r b HP

Under Science and Nature

6L o a I = 6 legs on an Insect

SoS =330mps = Speed of Sound = 330 metres per second.

My problem; 14 L on a W

What on earth does that mean. Any ideas?

I thought it might be, 14 legs on a Watchman.
But after some thought I discarded that one.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

14 L on a W = 14 Legs on a Woodlouse. Seriously.

Before I take a stab at the first one, I have a question. It reads "N2000 r b HP."
Is that "r" after the 2000 supposed to be there or is it merely a typo and if it is supposed to be there, was it printed in lowercase on the quiz itself?

I could not understand how I missed woodlouse in my research of this question. I trawled through the 'L's & 'W's in my dictionarys looking for inspiration. The problem was that in the Ws I found "Wheatstone bridge" this intrigued me, and I pumped that into a search engine and spent some time reading about this piece of apparatus. When I returned to my research a few days later I hit "Wimshurst machine" once again intrigued I turned to the search engine and spent some time reading about this piece of kit.

When I returned to the problem I must have thought I had cleared the Ws. Yesterday I looked up woodlouse to find "any small terrestial isopod crustacean of the genus Oniscus etc.

I looked up isopod to find "any crustcean of the order [i]Isopoda[/], including woodlice and slaters, often parasitic and having a flattened body with seven pairs of legs.

It is all there at my fingertips, I just failed find it.

In a previous existence I was a research assistant. I hang my head in shame.

Is the format of the question and answer always the same? By that I mean does HP HAVE to be the author's name? Could it also be the title of the book or a character's name?

You're very welcome, Rick and I finally found the answer to the last remaining question.

N2000 r b HP= Nimbus 2000 rode by Harry Potter. It's his broomstick apparently.

The way I found woodlouse was that I figured 14 L most likely meant 14 legs, so i took a shot and typed in "14 legs" in a Google search.
The quotation marks were important, otherwise I would have come up with thousands and thousands of hits from any sites that had both the number 14 and the word legs anywhere in them. Putting quotes around them ensured that only links that had them appearing together would pop up. This narrowed things down considerably.

The other question was harder as we are seemingly the only two people left on the planet who haven't read Harry Potter, so I wasn't aware of this reference. Though Harry Potter did briefly enter my mind, he quickly left, on his broomstick no doubt.
For this one, I had to enlist the help of some kind and literate folks from a Book Chatroom that I frequent. When I posed the question, someone gave the answer immediately.

Hmmm...I think that would look better as Nimbus 2000 ridden by Harry Potter, rather than rode by Harry Potter...hmmmm. I really should re-register or try to remember my old password, so that I can edit these posts.

Erica, you are an absolute diamond. Thank you very much. I was convinced this had something to do with Harold Pinter, a prominant English playwright. But could not find a connection. The name Harry Potter came up, but I dismissed it. I should have known better.

I am unable to forward a copy of the quiz to you at the moment. The sheet has my answers written in alongside the questions, and I have sent the completed form off to the organiser, it has to be with him by October 1st. He will return the form c/w answers at a later date. Rest assured I will reproduce the quiz and forward it as soon as I get it back.

No offense intended towards Jenney. I have never spoken to her, seen her, emailed her, met her etc., so there is no way I could know if she was old or not.

I was merely quoting Ed Chigliak from Northern Exposure when he was talking to Dr. Fleischman about his concern over Ruth Ann breaking her ankle. He said "You know, she's pretty old". From time to time I will quote things but like this time, they go completely over peoples heads and get someone all huffy puffy. Sorry if I offended you Jenney. Being old is only a state of mind anyway...

Watchman, I just gain more and more respect for you over time. I thought I was the only Northern Exposure fan left. I just told a coworker today that if he was taller, had more hair, had a better voice and was better looking he would be the spitting image of Chris in the morning-he had no clue!

There are lots of us "Northern Exposure" fans still around! Back when the show first aired, my wife, daughter, and I drove a thousand miles to visit the town of Roslyn, WA, where the show was filmed. I got to walk through Ruth Ann's General Store and even had a beer at The Brick! Also visited the KBHR radio station ("The Voice of the Last Frontier") but my girls were disappointed -- Chris was nowhere to be found!
