Hey all:
I know this might sound like a really ridiculous question but, whats with Gords hair?
It goes from blonde-light brown(1970's)to Aburn/Chesnut(Endless Wire album)to almost salt and pepper(Harmony album cover)back to light-medium brown(photo at top of this page)to dark in the black and white photo(of the same title, and yes,I know its a B/W photo)back to light brown in one photo provided by Charlene to an almost brassy
bronzish red in the second photo.

Yes,I 've heard of hair dye.Yes,I realize lighting
can make a (sometimes big)difference. But does anyone know what his natural color is/was?
Am I the only one who has noticed this?

I'm sure hair colouring has been involved over the years as has perm solution and bad haircuts. Just like the rest of us!
Many pics show colours differently than is the actual case though due to lighting and printing.
He's 67 - I'm sure there's some grey going on-it's his call whether he wants to go with it or touch it up....

In some late '60s early 70s photos (and a clip I saw awhile back) he's a straight up curly haired blonde! He looked cool that way though.

Hard to picture a guy like himself using hair dye though.

Does he or doesn't he? ... only his hairdresser knows for sure

And for those of you old enough, that will ring a bell.

Yes, this is a silly thread but...

A few years back after a wonderful Lightfoot concert I ended up with a backstage pass for myself, the (used to be) wife, and my Mom. My Mom being a former hair dresser asked Gord about his previously curly hair. Gord replyed that after he quit drinking his curls went straight. Words from the man himself!

Right. Maybe he should have said, "After I quit drinking, I forgot to get my hair permed."

Look at his picture on front of GG1 and tell me that's not a perm.

Perms generally make the hair a little lighter, too, which would partly explain the differences in color.

When I first met my later-to-be husband in 1977 he had blond, permed hair, similar (as I recall) to Gord's on the Rolling Stone cover. Oddly enough I can't remember whether he had his beard and mustache at that time as well; he grew and shaved them so frequently I often lost track. I do remember he wore jeans, a knit shirt, worn leather bomber jacket and wire-rim glasses. I was wearing jeans and an orange ribbed half-sleeve poorboy sweater, along with a ratty apron as at the time I was making salads and desserts at a local Italian restaurant. He came by with my sister and her husband at closing to pick me up. We had a drink at the bar then all piled into his battered little Honda Civic to go home. Sigh.

Long story short, I guess (not), perms were the thing at the time. Of course, anyone who's met my husband recently knows his perms, like his hair, are a thing of the past. He now passes for Mr. Clean, minus the earring.

As for Gord, who cares? I think he's feeling and looking pretty good. The rest is all window-dressing.

He probabbly has a good hairstylist. Ive notice that in an interview with the late great Peter Gzowski. His hair is straight as can be. Yet a lot of his better photos, I always taught he had curly hair. Look at the " Sundown" cover. So yes a very good hairstylist, that makes sure he looks the way he wants to look. The cover photo of "East OF Midnight", really straight again. He's such a good writer & signer, musical genius, that he can wear his hair any damn way he chooses. In "Hi way songs", " thinking of girls, with there fingers in my curls." Keep on yearning Gord.
