Tribute Albums

I'm new to this so bear with my questions as they may be extremely naive.

Has or are there tribut albums to Gord done by other artists? I vaguely recall hearing about one or two out there.

Also two hypthetical questions: [1] Would Jerry Garcia have ever played on or jammed with Gordon on any of Gord's songs? and [2] Is it incompatable to be a Deadhead, Lighthead and Parrothead or can one be all three (and if you drink enough Brador you can be all three simultaneously!)

Personally, I think Garcia would have liked to jam to Hangdog Hotel Room and Whispers of the North. Similarly I think Buffet could easily cover Triangle and Christian Island and maybe should. So now I throw it out to all of you Lightheads. Any opinions.

Tribute albums, yes there are few:
Beautiful with various artists singing Gord's material and Tony Rice sings Lightfoot (I think that's the title?). There are other Lightheads much more capable of filling in the blanks on this question than I am.

Not sure about Jerry Garcia jamming on Gord's songs...

I can, however, handle the second hypothetical question: There is nothing incompatible about being a Deadhead, a Parrothead and a Lighthead all at once. Or any other music you choose to throw in there. Jimmy Buffet is a Lightfoot fan

Is Buffet really that guy's last name? Sounds like a stage name...(love his music also)

Personally, I'd like to hear people like Ron Sexsmith, Jimmy Buffet, Anne Murray, Janis Joplin, and many others to to Lightfoot songs (Anne could do another)

LSH,yes Jimmy Buffett is his real name. I checked my copy of "Billboard Book Of Top 40 Hits" and it's real. Otherwise,they'd put down what name he was really born with. Y'know,like Elton John is really Reginald Kenneth Dwight? (Now,that's an exciting stage name,right?

Ok, I can get into Janis doing a Lightfoot tune, with what song should we pair her? hmmm. She could do EMR justice...easy.
She blew "Me and Bobby McGee" outta the ballpark. I'd like to hear Gord do that song with the voice he has now...

B, well, the last name suits him..."buffett"ed by ocean gales...

Joplin could maybe do Steel Rail Blues or something like that. Anne and Gord can pair up again for Cotten Jenny. I don't know what Ron could do bcuse I havent heard him sing. And Jimmy Buffet could do that song song called "Come Monday". Reason for that is bcuse that song was written bcuse He tries to write a song like Gord.

i certainly don't know all GL tributes out there (but i sure enjoy listening to most attempts and new arrangements so please send me links to mp3s of any and all covers

), as there are even many great small studio ones that admirers have made/homemade

i think Mac Wiseman's cover album is a hoot but all songs sounds the same to me...if they want to crack that Saddam guy they should loop this album in his cell, lol

no joking, i probably knew George Hamilton IV cover album ('69) versions before hearing many of Gordon's originals, that old LP has been kicking around about here forever... i think my brother bought it for my mom's bday back when we were small, but he thought it was a Lightfoot album... in mom-fashion, she didn't acknowledge the mistake, but she may have privately wept/wailed later, lol

i'm pretty ignorant to west coast music (except for fleetwood mac, if that counts as west coast...only cos i love christine mcvie, who's British, lol) so i have no comments to add about the parrot guy or the dead guy... i've heard good things about them but not yet heard good music from them

George Hamilton the IV (fourth) had a hit at age 19 in 1956 with,"A Rose and A Baby Ruth" (yes,the candy bar!)

Nice song but a bit sappy!

He also teamed up with Paul Anka & Johnny nash in '58 for,"The Teen Commandments" a musical lecture for teen-agers!

He had a few more hits until 1963,then of course...came the Beatles! Overall,I'd say he's better than Englebert! Now i've got to find that Lightfoot Country Lp!

There's a country newbie who's doin Sundown and there's the Beautiful Tribute and Stars On 54 did a remake of IYCRMM. Folk=Dance doesnt exactly fit but it sounds good. many others did remakes such as Glen Campbell, Anne Murray, George Ham the 4th, so on and so forth.

Now I have Englebert Humperdink (now THERE'S a stage name!) in my head now. There's a fairly constant soundtrack in my head...right now it's playing.."I love you baby, and if it's quite alright I need you baby..." and so on...
Was raised on that stuff, as well as Cash and some Dylan. Found Gord on my own.

As a sidenote on tribute albums, I am giving Beautiful another listen, and have decided that I really like Bruce Cockburn's rendition of Ribbon of Darkness. Top notch. He really evokes the spirit of the song. I got blue just listening. I think I'll look into some of his stuff.

i listened to Anne's version of Cotten Jenny and I just about dropped my jaw bcuse it was so damn good! I was impressed at how well she did it, then again, never underestimate a Canadian!
