It's about time I resumed advertising the weekly Friday chats here
i have already posted a commercial on the Newsgroup alt.music.lightfoot at:-
http://www.newsgroup.notlong.com
which begins:-
Meanwhile I guess it is that time of year when everybody is on holiday, I cannot think of any other plausible reason why it should be that there have been precisely one post here over the last 8 days
So since nobody has anything to say here and to break the monotony I will post a few links to recent activity on corfid, noting that if for whatever reason you do not wish to follow them you can simply ignore them......
I gave 4 links......
Thanks for your patience in reading this today
OK now the commercial as presented to newsgroupers.
We have recently experimented with Javascript chat rooms as an alternative to the Internet Relay Chat system that via a browser (that) utilises a Java applet that requires either a Windows Java Machine or the equivalent Sun Java Runtime Environment or the infinitely simpler and preferable mIRC program(me), but nothing yet beats the IRC room via mIRC or the applet
I have now made a new easier to remember "notlong" link to my explanatory page which currently works but over the last week there have been considerable periods when notlong.com has apparently been off-line which is a pain in the you know where.....
My new link for chats on Friday evenings starting at 9PM EST is:-
http://www.glchat.notlong.com
This new link should automatically forward you to:-
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot/chat/
where I will update the current arrangements should they change

The "Javascript " reference above refers to the "Chatzy" room which may or may not be working now but also caused some of us dial-uppers a problem and is obviously unreliable so bye bye chatzy. Besides which I have now mislaid AnneOK's original link to it.
The other Javascript room (by
http://www.qwadchat.com) i personally quite liked and as I previously posted nouse and I were able to meet there once, but Bill Hall found it impossible. I tried setting it up again last week but it then refused to open for me so bye bye qwadchat too!!
OK we are left with the Internet Relay Chat Room for now but I think that our IRC server dilexnet.net might be having problems but the access via mIRC worked fine just now.
As did the applet method when using my old Windows98/Internet Exploder 6 equipped computer, BUT
I also tried to access the applet way using the Firefox browser and it looked like Firefox automatically forwarded me to Sun's Java Runtime Environment installation page BUT tha process takes longer than getting and installing mIRC, so there you have it. Just choose your poison!!
