I don't believe I have heard much in the way of publicity regarding his older children.. they have certainly kept a low profile. Although when I met Gord again in Nov 99, some guy in his 30's came out the backstage door who bore a STRONG resemblance to Gord so I am not sure if this was Fred or not. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall any mention of their names among the list he writes about in Songbook.

While Gord doesn't mention his two oldest, Fred and Ingrid, in the long list of people he has known and worked with over the years, he does mention them elsewhere in the notes of the Songbook box set.
In his commentary for The Pony Man, he says that he wrote it for his his kids Fred and Ingrid. At the end of that paragraph he shares with us some wonderful wisdom he's picked up over the years when he writes, "Kids don't really care what you do; they just want to be with you"
He also notes that the song "Fine as Fine can Be" is dedicated to his daughter Ingrid, who he writes is now in her thirties and has given him two grandchildren.
In the comments on this song he says "I haven't written songs for all of my children-not that I don't want to, but the song has to be right. All I need is time...unlimited time."
He mentions the names of his other four kids in that list at the end, so all of his kids are included somewhere in the Songbook notes.

David,
Galen Mcgee is his other son. Although, he doesn't have the same last name as Gord, GL readily acknowledges him as his child. He's younger than Fred and Ingrid and older then Eric, Miles and Meredith. He's about 26 years old if I recall correctly.

I believe Gord was never married to Galen's mother - but don't ask me who his mother is

Hard to believe not even one of them wants a music career! I wonder if Gordon steered them away from it? Anyone know of why?

From a 1997 Globe and Mail article: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%2...ink.com&rnum=1

"While he battled the bottle, Lightfoot spent a chunk of his career dealing with turbulent relationships, including a two-year affair with Cathy Smith in the sixties, the Hamilton woman who was convicted in 1985 of administering the fatal drug overdose to comic John Belushi. Lightfoot is not eager to discuss that chapter in his life. "When you talk about all those things like that, they affect the new things that have come into your life," he says, looking at Elizabeth.

Instead, Lightfoot is more than happy to talk about his children. There are six: Fred, 34, and Ingrid, 32, from his first marriage to a Swedish woman named Brita; Gaylen McGee, 22, a student living in
Los Angeles; Eric Lightfoot, 15, who lives outside of Toronto; and Miles, 8, and Meredith, 3, from his current marriage. Lightfoot is also grandfather to Ingrid's two children: Amber, 9, and John, 7.

"We have an as normal as can be family life," says Lightfoot. "I recognize that I am family with these children."

When asked whether the entire clan has ever attended a family get-together, Lightfoot replies, "Not yet."

He's also not quite ready to pen the autobiography he's been asked about many times in the past.

"I might be able to eventually, but I'm not thinking about it right now, that's for sure. I'm still working."

****************************************
I believe he mentioned somewhere or other that Eric is a musician, though of his own kind of music. He'd be about 21 or 22 now.

Ah, found it! Excerpt with pertinent info:

"During the interview, Lightfoot politely excused himself twice to talk with his 18-year-old son, Eric, who was visiting him. Eric is starting an alternative band in Toronto.
Asked whether his son is interested in playing his father's music, Lightfoot replied, "He's not into that kind of trip. He's into his own trip."

Hope this helps!

I remember reading something on the Martin site, or I got to it off the Martin site. Lightfoot was talking about the guitars he owns and he pointed to his electric guitar and said that was the guitar his then 17 year old son learned to play on. Guess he meant Eric.

Thanks Annie! That was very helpful. I had to lol when Gordon said,"He's not into that kind of trip,he's into his own trip!"

Does this mean that Gordon has taken a trip upon the "high" road? Hmmmm....! Been me,Aurevoir!

Probably a throw-back reference to a 60s phrase, as in "not my scene," though our guy has traversed the "Carefree HIGHway" and been "HIGH and Dry" as well as "On the HIGH Seas" lol.
