I recently found this forum..been reading posts and I think I've found a new home. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I'm Jeff..39 from Virginia. I grew up listening to and loving my Dad's music..Gord, Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, Clancy Brothers, etc. I love many types of music but I return to Gord's beautiful, peaceful sounds almost every week for my soul fix. I've not met many people in my area who know or appreciate the music and lyrics of Gordon Lightfoot. I am trying desperately to get the time and the money to see Gordon in Veinna VA in August. Its about 6 hours away from us and I think this is as close as he'll be to us. I want to take my Dad. Neither of us have ever had the opportunity to see him live and until I found this forum I thought we were his biggest fans. Thanks for such a great forum. I look forward to reading your posts and maybe talking with some of you.

Hi Jeff, and welcome! Sounds like we had similar musical influences growing up...my dad passed on his love of music to me through a very eclectic mix...most of the artists you mentioned, plus singers like Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, and now add some Jazz from Dave Brubeck, some brass from Herb Alpert, some guitar from Andres Segovia, and some rock influences from bands like the Beatles.
Having learned that music itself is a very personal thing, I did not limit myself to one genre, but remained open to new influences. My own tastes are very eclectic as well. But I like how you put it...returning to Gord's music for a soul fix. I find myself doing the same.
I am happy to say I will be seeing Gord live again in Minneapolis in September. First time since 1980 or thereabouts. I do hope you get the opportunity to see him in August, and, if so, please share your experience with us here!
Once again, welcome.

Hello from Northern Maine. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago, and thought I was the only Lightfoot fan left on the planet, until I found this place and the newsgroup, alt.music.lightfoot. Welcome to our little world.

Welcome on board Jeff enjoy yourself here!!
It really warms my heart whenever I read of yet another Lighthead admitting that they previously thought they were the only Lightfoot fans in the world I and countless other Brits used to feel the same way.I realised in 1997 that as I told Wayne Francis of http://www.lightfoot.ca, after he had opined that Gord would never play England again
"I must get over to North America then to see him one more time before he and I get too old"
Truly prophetic words bearing in mind the close brushes with the grim reaper I had in 2000 and Gord 2 years later. In the event as several here know in 1999 I went into the Friday evening chat room (see below for advert) met a super fellow fan, and luckily made the pilgrimage to Massey Hall's House of Gord that November married her and am now in New Jersey and eagerly looking forwards to our next magical Lightfoot experience in New Brunswick. that's the University/Hospital city in NJ (It was incorporated as a town in 1736 and chartered as a city in 1784) not the confusingly named copy-cat Canadian province
(The Province of New Brunswick was therefore officially created by Sir Thomas Carleton on August 16, 1784.)
that produces fine fans like young Jessie-Joe here
Anyway the point is if you are a keen fan you really MUST make the effort to witness Gord in action before it is to late (the man is after all almost 68 and though we hope not thinking of retiring just yet life is unfortunately finite)
Now come on you cannot expect us to be impressed by your bleat
"Its about 6 hours away from us and I think this is as close as he'll be to us" Big deal!!
in 1999 I travelled for about 15 hours and 3000 plus miles
soconsider yourself blessed that it is only 6 hours there will be a number of erstwhile Brits and others flying much longer than that toToronto for the privelage next November plus possibly even some attempting go learn to walk upright from Australia too
and there will be several potential friends from corfid at Vienna,VA,so go if only to repay that resident of the original Vienna,Austria, young Florian who owns this superb corfid web site
Ok that is one advertisement.
Now the next I just mentioned the chat room. we have kept it going and a session is held every Friday at 9 PM EST.
just go to:-
http://www.glchat.notlong.com
which should open the detailed page on my web site at:-
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot/chat/
Look for the blue button which should work unless you have a very new computer with no Java applet handling facility.
Jessie-Joe that probably includes you if so hit the red button after first hitting the green button and getting the free programme mIRC

Welcome aboard Jeff,
Do what you have to to make it Wolf Trap, he may not pass this way again too soon.
There will be at least 5 corfid folks at the show plus a number of lurkers who don't like to announce themselves in public. We're meeting to eat before the show at Ovations which is on the grounds. It's a fabulous venue to see him.
OK I'm the old guy with a USMC haircut and a Hawaiin shirt. Some of us will be in the third row in the pit in front of the stage. Stop by and say hello or better yet stop by and eat with us, and bring your Dad.
Hope to see you there,
Bill

Hi Jeff. I am new to this forum as well, and can totally relate to what you're saying. Until I got here I felt like one of the only Lightfoot enthusiasts in the world. A lonely feeling, but look around you now, you're alone no longer
Peace~ Jen

:D Better late than never I say.. welcome to our little corner on the WWW. You will find everyone friendly here.
I've met a few at the Hamilton gig, Gord's first concert since his brush with death a couple of years ago.
Been listening to Lightfoot ever since I knew of him back in 77 when The Wreck was on the radio.
If you get a chance hang by the backstage door and you will get to see GL and the band. The guys in the band are really nice. First time I met the band Terry invited me and the other 5 outside to come on in and have all the beer and food we wanted! :D
Again welcome to the board!
Gord

Gord H, you were at that famous Hamilton concert? There must be something you can share here. The staff that treated him were there, must have been really good. The signing must have been a little weak tho?...Jesse.

Hi L.M.! Welcome to the Gord Board! :D
Borderstone coming at you out of Phoenix,AZ. I'm 38 myself and I Also grew up with my Dad's (and mother & grandmother's) music. That's anything from the early 20th century to the early 1960's.
I found the rest myself.
I've been a "Lighthead" for 5 years now (next month on the 7th that is.) Wish I'd found him sooner.
,I'm glad you like it here, the more the merrier because the less...the scarier! LOL!! See ya!

lazymorning,
Just echoing Char's sentiments. Get to that concert!
From your posts, you sound like an ardent fan with an emotional attachment to Lightfoot's music. When the "exit" sign of life comes on, leave with no regrets. Do it now. Good luck.

lazymorning - I notice you are having a bit of a problem with the quote function.
After you click on quote, type underneath. It will show the quote and then your message under the line. Like on Charlene's.
