Chat advertisement and my recent highlights report

So instead of my customary "message board" highlights I will present a elective list of the "Top Twenty" highlights of the past few weeks in my life:-
1. of course seeing Gord happy to be back on stage in SoCal,Nevada and Tronno
2. seeing the great Coronado Del Mar Hotel in San Diego (I think it was there although as a later viewing on television of "Some Like It Hot " indicated that we just might have been in Florida all along!!
3. meeting so many old friends and making many new ones especialy at:-
4. the pre-concert meal at Mimi's in Cerritos (even if Doug Kirk hogged the attention of The Rez/Rex
5. seeing surfers in action at Malibu and bladers at Venice Beach
6. seeing Sheryl Klein bounding up to greet me in the car park at Agoura Hills
7. driving up Route 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway)
8. quite fortuitiosly seeing not one but literally thousands of elephant seals at the Piedras Blancas beach

9. visiting the fine wine tasting of Harmony wines at the Harmony Cellars conducted by a Lighftfoot fan (Joe Montross)

10. tasting fried artichoke at the "Giant Artichoke" at Castroville CA:-

11. riding a San Francisco cable car and eating seafood on Fisherman's Wharf to rectify an omissions from my earlier (November 1999) visit
12. being greeted in the Orleans Casino Las Vegas by an excited Deb (Brink)ley
13. talking to Gord at the bar after Thursday's Las Vegas concert and receiving our own personal rendition of Couchiching
14. Hearing him announce that Inspiration Lady on the Friday was "for John and Susan"
15. arriving at the Delta Chelsea to meet Diane Johnson then trooping to the nearby Elephant and Castle where I enjoyed my first "proper" pint (20 ounces) of excellent British draught real ale (Fullers London Pride) for nearly 5 years and seeing the appreciative enjoyment of Alabaman Paige Stratton of her first Yorkshire Pudding.
16. hearing the terrific standing ovation the first night of Massey 2005
17. thinking I was exchanging smiles (from my seat in row C) on Wednesday with Little Barry (Keane) as he was singing along to IYCRMM then talking to him back stage where he told me he saw me in "the third row"!!
18. enjoying the wonderful spreads created by Janice at the first meeting on the Wednesday and the two post-concert parties we were able to attend
19. looking down on the CN Tower as we circled Toronto on our return flight on the Saturday
20. meeting "lighthead2toe" Ron Jones and hearing him play especially my request for "Face Of A Thousand People" at the Delta Chelsea jam session on the Saturday
OK against those highlights were inevitably a few lowlights notably:-
1. due to our ambitious touring plans not seing as much as planned of Sans Diego and Frisco but at least if we ever get the chance to go back we know what we still would like to see.
2. missing many friends who were unable to make it to Toronto but at least we met some in Vegas
3. missing the chance to really thank Florian for corfid while he was in Vegas apparently
4. not seeing Yuri or Jimmy jones
5. visiting an incommunicado Lynne Ackerman in her bed so close to where she would have loved to be (in St Michaels Hospital directly opposite Massey Hall)
6. Having to miss the fun and games surrounding the Thursday and Friday concerts against which I had the pleasure of seeing my step-daughter receive her Bachelor's degree (almost 42 years after I received mine from the Queen Mother in London's Royal Albert Hall

As I expected after I posted last week I thought of more highlights from our recent adventures
I think the biggest omission (which I don't think anybody else has mentioned) was that at both the Cerritos and Agoura Hills concerts there were large monitors mounted either side of the stage
And on one of those nights Gord positioned himself cent(e)re stage and looked left and right admiring his large image. What made it for me was that he had a silly grin on (very like my favo(u)rite moment in the Reno video where just after he walked on he gave that same grin to the camera:-

Although we had another successful chat session last Friday
both Sheryl and Deb (brink) reported to me on Sunday that the chat room appeared to have died. Some investigation then revealed that as notified when trying to visit the Internet Relay Chat hosting site

one is curtly informed
"This domain name expired on 05/26/05 and is pending renewal or deletion."
So it would appear that the owners have so far omitted to renew their domain name's registration.
I found out the owner's email address plus I had a good contact from when I set up this revised arrangement after the demise of the
IRC host that Rik had used and have twice emailed both contacts so far with no response.
So boys and girls I may be faced with another search for a suitable host for our chat channel #gordonlightfootchat
I will as hitherto endeavour to find one that enables access both by your browser using a Java applet or by the recommended mIRC method
which based on my previous experience is not going to be an easy or quick job.
In fact I fear that unless I get lucky it may well turn out that I can only arrange for an mIRC-accessible setup. Fortuneately I think that the majority of the regulars eventually bowed to the pressure and installed mIRC (which I insist is no big deal)
but it does mean that regrettably there can be no chat session tonightusing the regular system/IRC channel. By all means though do try the various links on my page at:-

Just fire away here as much as you like lots more advice available. Sorry I missed you but my wife had had a hard week and
was asleep and I am not at all keen on the temporary (bravenet) chat room we had to use. Hopefully by next Friday the owners
of my favo(u)red chat room hosting site http://ww.dilexnet.net will have woken up to the fact that they have (so far) allowed
their domain name's registration to expire and with any luck they might even deign to repsond to my two (so far) emails
alerting them to the problem they are causing .If I write again to them I will have to offer to organise a whip round for
them but as far as I know the reregistration is probably only about $20.00 for a further two years.
Meanwhile yesterday afternoon I succeeded after a modicum of googling in making live contact with an alternative hosting
outfit whose arrangements appear to include a "browser entry" method i.e. using a suitable Jaca applet and is also mIRC compatible so if all else fails I will just have to start again

Well All Right as an Englishman I missed the vast majority of SNL in

And I missed the full repeat of the episode with Gord last week having

edition that featured a delightful parody/pastiche

made originaly for "Rutland Weekend Television" from the now largely
extinct English County of Rutland and starring the home
grown "pre-fab" four "The Rutles" about a group of erstwhile musicians
that are instantly familiar

format no less (although I have made a good NTSC VHS digital conversion
for my John Lennon mad stepdaughter)

Here is my weekly chat commercial
Last week I was surprised at how many found their way into Rik's alternate "Bravenet" chat room
which sufficed for one week when our usual arrangement was out of action

So now where are we??
First the bad news then the good
once again I have failed to write my planned tutorial for the chat room but below you will find two screenshots (or links to them) to help you decide once in the room which way you used to get in!! surprising how many have no idea
But the good news is that my IRC hosting outfit (dilexnet.net) finally coughed up their domain name renewal fee on Saturday the 11th
(they never replied tomy alerting email but their opening page now says:
"After two years, the growth potential has been realized. Only a few days ago, we reached record numbers of users on the network. Due to an expired domain, these numbers have dropped quite a bit, but we hope to see it rise to the record once more" so all is now functioning which will leave me more time to work on the chat room tutorial:-

still function and as a preliminary to my rewrite of the instructions
here is another attempt to presemt a simplified choice of entry methods.
By now several chatters have wearied of being constantly told to install mIRC and successfully bit the bullet.
For them if they have not fully configured their program(me) the following link:-

should automatically open mIRC in the correct channel (and I confess I simply do not undertand how it works so there don't ask)
So OK you have resisted this far why yield now? read my blurb on my site page?

If your considered response is to eschew the delights Of mIRC then you will have to use one of the two browser/Java applet methods I have laid on at great expense I might add.

After I made that screenshot I tried to sign in so that I could make a further screenshot of how the room appears and found it refused to open (no attempt to load the applet just a "The page cannot be found" notice dammit
To cap it all
trying to use the quick automatic link direct to mIrC works a treat on my own PC
but when when I tried to do the same for my own applet (the JW_IRC applet by a Russian actually I haven't a clue how to write such a thing myself) the applet itself refuses to load on my own PC but trying it on Susan's produced the
alarming reference to the Russian Glass Company that I had never seen before but Deb Brinkley had told me about and then Internet Explorer mumbled on about disabling something yet still the chat room appeard.
I must stress that the applet in question I obtained from a Russian site and uploaded it to my own web site from where it will actually load onto your computer so I do not think there is anything to worry about.
Oh well better luck next time

And I missed the full repeat of the episode with Gord last week having

However I do fondly recall seeing in the UK another outstanding SNL
edition that featured a delightful parody/pastiche
(starring amongst others John Belushi and George Harrison) of another
foursome produced by Pythons Neil Innes and Eric Idle
made originaly for "Rutland Weekend Television" from the now largely
extinct English County of Rutland and starring the home
grown "pre-fab" four "The Rutles" about a group of erstwhile musicians
that are instantly familiar

part of an official Dire Straits musical video in PAL Betamax tape
format no less (although I have made a good NTSC VHS digital conversion
for my John Lennon mad stepdaughter)

Here is my weekly chat commercial
Last week I was surprised at how many found their way into Rik's alternate "Bravenet" chat room
which sufficed for one week when our usual arrangement was out of action

So now where are we??
First the bad news then the good
once again I have failed to write my planned tutorial for the chat room but below you will find two screenshots (or links to them) to help you decide once in the room which way you used to get in!! surprising how many have no idea
But the good news is that my IRC hosting outfit (dilexnet.net) finally coughed up their domain name renewal fee on Saturday the 11th
(they never replied tomy alerting email but their opening page now says:
"After two years, the growth potential has been realized. Only a few days ago, we reached record numbers of users on the network. Due to an expired domain, these numbers have dropped quite a bit, but we hope to see it rise to the record once more" so all is now functioning which will leave me more time to work on the chat room tutorial:-

here is another attempt to presemt a simplified choice of entry methods.
By now several chatters have wearied of being constantly told to install mIRC and successfully bit the bullet.
For them if they have not fully configured their program(me) the following link:-

should automatically open mIRC in the correct channel (and I confess I simply do not undertand how it works so there don't ask)
So OK you have resisted this far why yield now? read my blurb on my site page?

If your considered response is to eschew the delights Of mIRC then you will have to use one of the two browser/Java applet methods I have laid on at great expense I might add.

Hi John I just reread your long epistle which included fascinating details of The Rutles and found that your three pictures were not appearing properly.I therefore contacted you and you have now revised your posting so that they now appear.
I also thought that as your posting was so friggin' long it was likely that some busy readers here omitted to read to the bottom where you gave a link to a superb Newsgroup thread with a well worth reading contribution on the Massey jollifications by Ron Jones who had driven all the way from Vancouver to play for us and wrote a great commentary on how he enjoyed his trip
Hence I am replying to bring this topic back to the top

(Incidentally, I grew up in the port town from which the Edmund Fitzgerald sailed that fateful day.) Have since moved to the northwoods I love so well. (SHA-rin)? Interestingly, that isnt even his original sirname; he was born Ariel Scheinerman, but like many Israelis, especially army officers, he changed it to a more Hebrew sounding last name. He chose Sharon for the plains and valley of Sharon, north of Tel-Aviv, where he was born and raised. Also, though your friend may call you Ariel, hardly anyone actually calls him that. Everyone, friends and rivals alike, refers to him as "Arik", which in Israel is the affectionate form of his formal name. BTW, before the little mermaid came along, Ariel was actually quite the manly name, meaning , "Lion of G-d."

Thank you for that info. I'd not known. But, I sure do understand. I've seen those plains and that valley come to life in my own eyes.

I've had the privilege of visiting Israel a number of times as Worship Leader w/ Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.

It's often difficult for folks to understand the deep bond w/ The Land - the literal land - of those whose hearts were born there.

As much as I love the land of Colorado and America - my native land - it's different in Israel. Where that literal land joins a soul w/ almost literal roots.

I'd read Leon Uris 'Exodus', seen the Paul Newman movie, sung it's marvelous theme - taking the lyric for granted - read The Bible and knew the names of the places. But, not until I touched that land, did I begin to get a grasp of the depth.

Each time I returned, the grasping grew. I didn't visit Jeruselem. I went "up to Jeruselem." I'd heard that phrase so many times, but didn't get it until I stood on Mt. Scopus for the first time.
