Watching the 70s and 80s on VH1 made me wonder—“What GL song would make a good roller rink song?” My list would be “Circle Is Small”, “You Are What I Am”, “Carefree Highway’, “Broken Dreams”,“Waiting For You”

I think the couples skate song could be IYCRMM and you could easily change the words to skate in the dark to it.

If I could see your eyes love,
What a failure that would be,
Then I would know you hate me,
Like all the other "couple-skaters do",
When it gets to the part where the lights come up the Zero would be me.

(I always had all the drips ask me to couple skate, it was terrible...but, then all the cute boys were told by my brother that he would kill them if they asked me to skate with them. Remember that ladies and gentlemen? When Family was a protected interest? When a girl had other protectors besides dad? I did, now I look back and love my brother for being my friend and family, but, I can't say I felt like that all the time, sometimes he chased away some mighty cute guys. Hasn't life changed and stayed the same in some ways? But, do any people still skate like people skated back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was young?

Gwen,I visited a roller rink one day just a few short years back and no,they don't skate with too much "joy". The music plays but they don't get into it to where their skating with it. It's more like background noise than anything these days. From what I saw,it looked like they were afraid to be seen smiling or enjoying themselves to much. The ones that looked like they were, they were more or less roughhousing on the skating floor trying to make others fall down. Then again,it was a few years ago, maybe things have gotten better since. I hope so. Been me,later!

I guess Summertime Dream would be a good roller rink song. It would have to be a pretty upbeat song. I just remember Another One Bites the Dust and My Sharona from my last visit to a roller rink (which was in 8th or 9th grade).

Rick Mundane, are you a Simpsons fan?

My daughter's friends still sometimes have birthday parties at the local Roller Rink but I've never heard any Lightfoot songs. I'll bring a CD next time and see if they'll stick some tunes in.

Having never been in a roller rink in my life I haven't a clue? What is required to make a "good" roller rink song? And more importantly, what's the attraction to skating around in circles?
