I figure it's been the bane of all folk singers that middle America has an easier time hearing PPM sing Dylan than Dylan sing Dylan. Same-Same Gord.
But it's not new. The Weavers (w/ Pete Seger et.all.) were huge favorites w/ Goodnight Irene. I doubt even the fathful follower of folk music never hear the orginal by Huddy Leadbetter - Leadbelly.
The world thinks Mr. Tamborine Man consists of one verse and Jim McGuin's ringing 12 string Rickenbacker. A 2 min record of perfection to be sure, but what about the other 384 verses.
Leonard Cohen is another example. Suzanne was covered by beautiful voices, not possessed by Leonard.
The Patriots Dream in the hands of Bruce Springstrean would get the intention it sould have had all along.
And so on, and so on, and so on again.
Gord has seldom been associated w/ polotics (ala Black Day in July,) but that's just cause people carrying the signs weren't paying attention.
Far back, The House You Live In is a good example. Hypocracy.
I'm afrain I could keep going for 3 or 4 moons, but I'll leave it where it is.
