This has been my favorite Gord song of late. I would love to ask gord his opinion of the current state of affairs.

Echoes of Heroes was an early GL song about the reality of war...he performed it in concert in the early 60s...usually along with commentary on why and how he wrote it and how he felt it fit into the landscape of the day. It is part of the LaCave bootleg and it can be found at Matthew's website of rare and unreleased material. So watch Matthew Bullis' postings here for when he has the site back online.

thanks guys, I had forgot about it being on the La Cave. And now, I have listened to it. very interesting song. funny thing, do you guys remember back when watchman (I think), amongst others was praising the song "heaven help the devil, may he have a few unpleasant memories"? Does this song sound like it is in the same vein? Maybe not. But, again thanks for jogging my memory...

thanks guys! I have that La Cave in the cd player now. Do you remember a while back when "watchman" amongst others was praising the song "heaven help the devil may he have a few unpleasant memories"? I was recently doing my obsessive playing over and over of a that particular song and correct me if I am wrong, but, does that have similarities to this "heroes" song?

You are correct, but according to Cathy Cowette, who has a wonderful rendition of this song on her site, it was written about the Iranian Hostage Crisis.
