Hello everyone,
It looks like we're going to have a pretty big crowd for our April Caffe Lena concerts. We've blocked off 15 rooms at The Downtowner, but it's becoming pretty obvious that there will be more than 15 people attending. If you plan on attending, and will need a room at The Downtowner, you'd better make reservations soon. I think the hotel has 42 rooms, and there was another small group that was also reserving rooms for the same weekend, so please don't wait until the last minute to reserve.
Also, if you plan on attending either or both of the concerts, you should reserve a seat at Caffe Lena. The Caffe seats 82 people, and last time we played there, they had to bring in extra tables. There are many local people who will show up, and they don't always reserve. I'd hate to see people from our group show up, and be turned away at the door, so please, please reserve, and do it soon!
Val will have a get together for everyone on Saturday afternoon, currently planned from 2:30 to 6:30 PM. Everyone who has signed up on her mailing list at http://mageenet.net/lenaconcertform.html will be invited to attend. In the very near future, Val will be adding meal choices and asking how many guests you are planning on bringing. So, if you plan on attending, please sign up on the above link as soon as possible. It's really the only way she can keep track of how many people will be attending.

I've got my room booked and tickets for Caffe Lena and am just debating what airline to fly to Albany on. Air Canada is in BIG trouble right now and I'm also concerned about that WAR problem that may crop up!

Well your choice is non-stop via Air Canada, or connections via US carriers. I'll write you offline, but I found a good choice on US carriers if you can get to the airport at the break of dawn - it's via Boston, definitely a LOT better than going to NYC (which will include a bus transfer between two airports). You'll be in Saratoga before noon (and I'll pick you up, of course). That's if you are uneasy about Air Canada's future ...

No, Bru, there is no bus from the UK. But there are many flights across the Atlantic to NYC, and it's an easy hop up here. Maybe this should be your next trip to this side of the pond? We have a lot of old friends and a great bunch of newcomers planning to come, and a visit to Saratoga is a great vacation all by itself, even without a highlight of a Lightfoot tribute concert.
It's not to late to plan it ...

Hey - that would be great! I hear tell that someone may be driving up from NJ; that might be another way you could get up here to Saratoga, once you land. "We" have about 20 rooms already reserved at the motel (out of their 42), so make those plans soon if you want to stay where most people will be. And, yeah, I'm working at this. I'd like it to be a big success for Lena's, and a big gathering of Lightfoot fans - old friends and lots of new ones. I hope you make it.

Silverheels, You could almost bus it from the UK to the USA. A quick trip through the 'Chunnel' turn left, grind up through Scandinavia into Russia. The only problem is getting across the Bering Straits into Alaska. Perhaps a passing ice floe may suffice.
The reference to Harry Potter's car triggered fond memories. My first car was a Ford Anglia (Harry's) I called it my 'Anglebox'
It cost me £145.00 I had to take out a loan to buy it. I had just passed my driving test, and when I tried to drive it away from the garage, I kept stalling it, (4 on the floor) The salesman got his mate to follow us and he drove it home for me. Lol.
Oddly enough we have just ordered a new car, which, I am happy to say, we no longer have to take out a loan to buy. This one will not stall, it is an automatic. How times change.
Just to maintain the GL theme. I am off to the pub tonight for the weekly jam session. I will be attempting 2 Gordon songs. 'Heaven Don't Deserve Me' straight forward strumming. also 'I'll Tag Along' tricky finger picking. Wish me luck

Don't hold your breath waiting for that, Bru. We're going to have a war, whether we need it or not.
You should make the hotel and Caffe Lena reservations. You can always cancel them if it looks like you won't make it.

There is an airplane called the Airbus manufactured by a company called-- Airbus! (what a clever bunch of folks!)
Anyway, another option you flying folks may consider is the possibility of flying into the Airport in Syracuse NY. The drive is about the same distance as from the NYC airports, and REALLY easy to get out of the airport and on to the NYS Thruway to head east to Saratoga. I have no idea what the air fare difference is, but it's just a thought for those intimidated with the thought of having to deal with NYC airports and traffic.
