Kris wrote it, but Gord did a pretty good version on the "If you could read my mind" Album in 1970.

Keep Smiling

Kris wrote it but Gord's version is the
far superior of ANY version of this great
song, IMO.

Now you know I have to step in here!
LOL
Having seen Kris sing this song live a few times and even seen Kris AND Gord do it live at Massey plus seen Gord do it by himself I still have to say that the rendition by Kris in all of his gruffness and old croaky voice moves me more than any other version. He sings it like he lived it. That' s how he sings all of his songs just as Gord does his and I don't like to hear anyone else do his stuff! Gord's version is wonderful and I love it but it's really Kris's song.
In my humble (but correct) opinion!
lol

Char,
I hate to disagree with you but IMO
Gord's version is the diffinitive (even
tho he did not write it - and I love Kris
and his version) version. Some say Janis
Joplin's is the best yet I loathe her version. I've not seen GL and KK perform
this song together - I envy you that, Char.
It's all down to personal preference, I guess.

I guess I am partial to KK because I saw him in concert before I ever saw Gord. The first time I saw Gord was at the KK concert at Massey when he got on stage to sing Bobby McGee with KK. I do agree that no one does a lightfoot song like lightfoot and i don't even know why anyone bothers! i'm the same way with KK tho!
lol
