I Wish I Could Tell Him

I know that just picking up the phone, and telling him personally is not possible. But, If by chance there is someone on this board who can (Im new here) tell Mr. Lightfoot what a influence he has made on me, would be a dream come true. He has always been a favorite of mine. The earliest I can remember is getting ready for school in the morning, and hearing "If You Could Read My Mind" on the local radio. Since hearing that song, I wanted to play...just like him. I did fullfill that and, taught myself to play and, on a local public level, I played. Now at 52, I'm at a time in my life where I am remembering the past and, being thankful for all of the people who made my life a bit brighter. Gordon Lightfoot, and his wonderful music, was definately a ray of sunshine.
So, if by some strange miracle, there is one here who can tell him thank you for me, it would be truly appreciated. Myron from PA, USA

Go to one of his concerts.... Wait for him after the show. And tell him what you just wrote.

Myron, Wes has it right. Get to a Lightfoot concert. Gord is very approachable and I think truly pleased and thankful for the continued support he receives. Good luck!

Hope I don't bore you, but I have a personal story... I might have told it before here.

I was able to meet GL after a concert in W. Virginia a couple of years ago...

After we talked for awhile he had to go, and before he left, I looked him straight in the eye, and I mentioned how much his music meant to me and how I came to depend on it through the years. I went into greater detail than here... I always wanted to tell him that, to his face... and I thought, when he was very ill, that I would never be able to tell him. So, I wasn't going to blow this opportunity. He is getting older, like the rest of us, and you never know when you won't see someone again.

It was VERY easy to speak with him. Almost like a grandfather... he was very kind to me and my family.

Since that time, almost two years ago, I have been more open with my family and friends and I tell them how much I love them, or appreciate them. Hate to be dramatic, but talking with GL and telling him my feelings, changed my life a bit.....for the better.

Hope this didn't bore you... probably a number of you had the same experience.

Myron, I can relate to SO much of what you've said here. I have been enthralled with Gordon's music from the time I was about 4 yrs. old (maybe even younger, but that is my earliest recollection of hearing him). My dad would play his 'Sunday Morning Concert' album late at night (when I was supposed to be asleep). I'd sneak out of bed, and sit in the doorway of my room, and listen... His music inspired me to pick up the guitar, as well.
I was at his Nashville concert (last weekend), but didn't know of how I might get a chance to talk to him. (The last thing I wanted was to be a 'pest', or to show up backstage uninvited). If I'd known he is approachable (as Wes said), I might have had the courage to at least try. : ( .
Oh well. Maybe next time.... Perhaps I will write him a letter to thank him. Thanks Charlene, for posting that address... : )

Actually it was because of this very site that I got to meet him and say hello.

As folks have mentioned he is very approachable these days. I only found that out through here.

It was well worth waiting hm out. As mentioned it's like talking to a close friend or family.

One thing that I'd like to do, if I could speak to him personally, is to find out if he ever got the comforter that I made him for his 70th birthday. The number one reason that I did that was to show how much I appreciated him & his wonderful music. I also wanted him to know how much I appreciated him coming to Arkansas back in '08, a thrill that I will always remember. I know that I will as I framed the ticket stub as well as an advertisement for the show.
