GL Playoffs : Need help
So far, 14 songs have been considered for the competition. I had hoped to have 16, but I'm at a loss for 2 more songs that have a realistic chance to compete with those already presented. I'll leave this thread open for a few days and if another 2 cannot be suggested, then I will go with Plan B.
Let me know if you have any ideas. I need 2.
The 14 songs considered so far are :
Canary Yellow Canoe
Uncle Toad said
May I
Ringneck Loon
My Pony Won't Go
Flying Blind
Fading Away
Boathouse
Couchiching
Biscuit City
Knotty pine
Endless Wire
Boss Man
Cobwebs And Dust

Oh, I wouldn't have Love and Maple Syrup on that list myself. I'm not arguing with the rest of them though.

Re: GL Playoffs : Need help
Thanks to all. There is enough fodder now to continue the competition as I originally planned. But just in case another potential contender is submitted, I will edit my original post to reflect the songs already 'in use'.
Thanks again

rm, not sure if I put these forward in JohnS's bottom 10 thread but:
I Want to Hear it From You (my taste doesn't synch with that arrangement/ production)
No Hotel (ok, fun to hear the first time...imo, it's fun in a 'May I' kinda way)
Something Very Special (this one makes me hallucinate)
Blackberry Wine (i like that last 5 bars the most)
Songs the Minstrel Sang (play some funky music, white boy)
Hey You (I have to at least FF through the instrumental if not the entire track...I label tunes like this as "contractual obligation tracks")
Cotton Jenny (hard to diss, it's definitely pop-ular)
Sometimes I Don't Mind (i always mind this one)
Hang Dog Hotel Room (this belong at the no hotel)
A Lesson in Love (i failed the song and the song failed me)
Dream Street Rose (i do like JP Cormier's arrangement of this one)
You Just Gotta Be...notta
If You got It...one of the few early years tracks I can do without
Fading Away...so is my list....

Well jj.....
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for showing up late to the party. While you were being furtive, the moderator dissed me so bad that I had to throw Beautiful under the bus.
Those song suggestions are great........next time.......BE on time.

Re: GL Playoffs : Need help
Interesting. The only one I'd argue with is If You Got It and not because it's great but because it fits where it is in its original release. Not one I'd go hunting for if I just wanted to hear one song.

Re: GL Playoffs : Need help
i suppose a 4 day (i consider 4 a few, 5 is several) delay is a bit out of Line
what you're sayin is "be there or be Square"
on that note, i forgot to mention Triangle
and I'm not fond of the GG1 recording of the Circle is small
ok, i've now the burden of googling 'furtive' then adding it to my Websterian ammo ...i'm still youtubing 'bundy'

true, i was unfair...i've just never gotten over that yelp at about the 90 second mark...a lingering blemish, imo

Re: GL Playoffs : Need help
Fair enough.
I agree on the Circle is Small on GG1. Actually I don't think I like any of the newer recordings of the older songs better. I understand he was in a different place at that point but those old UA recordings are wonderful little arrangements.

Re: GL Playoffs : Need help
there's a good opinion poll/question - are there any recordings on GG1 which members prefer over the original studio version?
i wish the GG1 result was more in the Back Here on Earth league
btw, fezo...i steered wrong... the Circle is small was re-produced (literally) on the endless wire effort....in my leaky memory banks it just sounded like a GG1 recording!
but Circle of steel is on there...not sure about go go Round or spin Spin, lol

Re: GL Playoffs : Need help
Doh! Of course you are correct that it's on Endless Wire.
Back Here on Earth. That's a good spot to be. I really like that album. Guys I play with and I have been doing Long Way Back Home since the early 70s.

well, my lengthy research is complete:
definition:
1: done by stealth (i do like this one)
2: obtained underhandedly (unfortunately this one is typically more accurate!)

a grand choice...as one reviewer stated, there is an English flavour to many of tracks...that LP takes me back to images/scents of the moors of the olde country
there are many Classic Albums episodes that are quite interesting, wouldn't I love one featuring BHOE!
