One Month till 70
In one month, on November 17 Lightfoot will turn 70.
I would like to urge those of you so inclined to send a note or card to him for his birthday this special year.
In the past I have printed out the wishes and either sent them or hand delivered them to the office. I thought that he might enjoy being deluged with cards sent individually this year..
For those in the U.S. I'd post it at least a week earlier so it arrives in time..everyone else should check their delivery times with their post offices.
thanks!
Char
(if you would like to post wishes here or e-mail them to me for me to print and send I will do that - as long as he gets lots of wishes!!!)
The address is:
Mr. Gordon Lightfoot
Early Morning Productions
1365 Yonge Street
#207
TORONTO, Ontario
M4T 2P7
Canada

Thanks for the address.

Re: One Month till 70
I think it's a great idea. Years ago on Dave Sims Lightffot group, everyone was invited to sign a group e-mail for Gord's 60th Birthday. Which I did, I still remember how I finished my little note "May you continue to write music that touches the heart and stirs the soul." I know that's the effect Gord's music has had on so many of us.

Assuming that noone can wait until his birthday, what I'm sending him is a homemade comforter.

Re: One Month till 70
Thanks for saving and posting the 60th Birthday messages. I can't help but think that all of his fans then, are still fans now. Seeing all the posts, Gord's music has deeply touched all of us. At different times it has made us weep, made us smile, made us think, and made us feel. He has truly been a gift to us, and for that I'm thankful. I hope his 70th Birthday, will be filled with all the joy that he has brought into our lives.

Thanks Char, consider it done!
I'll also pass along the address to my mother and my sister, who are also big Lightfoot fans, but are not... uuhh, shall we say "cyber-inclined".

Re: One Month till 70
For those of us 'cyber-inclined' and posting wishes here, and those sending off birthday wishes via the post office perhaps a mention that you are one of The Net People, where you're from, perhaps a last concert you attended...
The birthday card I gave him with signatures of attendees at Massey in 2006, plus the printed out wishes, noted their home locations with their names and darned if he didn't mention most of them the next night onstage!

Speaking of sending birthday wishes by "snail mail", i got his present sent off this morning, and it should get there in about two weeks.

Re: One Month till 70
I still recall 4 years ago when i sent him a birthday card I found at the grocery store and sigend it on behalf of everyone at Corfid. (I actually wrote several user-names!)
The card said on the front,"Remember when we went bowling in Canada?"
Then the usual kind of birthday sentence inside, which wasn't as funny as the cover.
Even Gordon was funnier last night :
"Why is the moon pale?"
..."because it was out all night!" LOL!

Re: One Month till 70
Char - Mine is as good as in the mail. I have the card's purchased allready - opinion , please, everybody - I have 2
1.) - a 'Thank You' card, the Thank You in gold leaf-look in longhand,
An otherwise blank 'Thank You' card with something like this printed my me in side I am concocting : (Merry allways did cards and I am pathetically inept at the Hallmark thing ..... lol but what of this:
Thanks for the memories,
the songs we've loved so long,
the images and feelings so strong,....
so Thanks - for the memories, and a lifetime of sharing your gift with us; I am a better man for it. And Happiest of all Birthdays, Mr. Lightfoot ! 'Round suppertime, be sure to light the ole' Bar-be-cue - and have yourself a $15 Prime Steak - even shish-ka-bob ! Those are our Birthday dinners - with your music on the CD player or turntable..!
-OR-
2.) A slighly nerdy Star Trek TOS "sound" card - on front - Kirk asking Spock "Mr Spock, if ALL...theseCandles......ignited...at..the....Same time, whaaaaT would ..the outcome be.......Analyze Mr. Spock....(with histrionic arm movements and facial expressions) - open the card and: Spock speaks "Devastation Captain. complete, and total... devastation" - the humour route I do not mormally take on birthdays - but its still funny....but at 70, and what he's been thru... I am not so sure...
Opinions Mr. Spock....Chekov?, Sulu ? Lt. Uhura ?, ANEEEBODEEE ! lol.... please. :
1 or 2 ?

Re: One Month till 70
i always tend to lean to a simple card with a simple handwritten message..
but to each his/her own..it's a personal thing i think..

Re: One Month till 70
Amen, Char!
a good diversity of serious and humorous ... works for me!
Mine was perhaps a bit plain and a bit brief and to the point...
But the main thing is getting it there and getting it said!
GeoSteve, your card sounds like a hoot! now get it sent!!!
