Default Gord @ La Cave, Cleveland OH 1965

Recording available here:

http://www.hungercity.org/details.php?id=909

Gordon Lightfoot
La Cave, Cleveland,Ohio
1965

01. Early Morning Rain
02. Sixteen Miles
03. Get Together
04. Echoes Of Heroes
05. Long River
06. Song Of The Groundhog
07. Turn, Turn, Turn
08. The Auctioneer
09. Ribbon Of Darkness (attempt 1)
10. Nova Scotia Farewell
11. Ribbon Of Darkness (2)
12. Gossip Calypso
13. The Way I Feel
14. Steel Rail Blues
15. For Lovin' Me

Possibly the earliest live recordings of Gordon Lightfoot as a solo artist,
this was recorded around the time he recorded his first full album on United Artists
records which was releases in January 1966.

These recordings were released split in two, incomplete at the now very hard to
find bootleg albums "Yellow Bird" and "Get Together" on Koala records.
Lightfoot sounds a bit nervous sometimes and even forgot some of his lyrics on
the first attempt of Ribbon Of Darkness. The overal sound quality is very good
for an old recording like this and it's great to hear these songs from his first and,
in my opinion best record he made.

Just curious, I don't recall EMR on either of the two bootlegs mentioned???
I checked the site, but it required a log-in, so I opted out for now.
As always, I'm interested in any "new material" that comes our way, but I'm cautious about sites that may be dubious.

EMR and the first attempt at ROD were not on the records. They were on the full concert bootleg tape, and that is what is on the download site.

Thanks Valerie, I appreciate that!
I think I'll snag this one!

The only downside is that my previous tracks (from the original bootlegs) will be rather pointless. Oh well, make room for the new and improved stuff.

Thanks Blackberry John for posting!

I haven't downloaded this, but from the existance of the those two tracks I am assuming that it's the concert bootleg (which I have on cassette somewhere ...). The tracks from the lps are just the songs; sometimes that is what you want to listen to. The concert has all the between songs commentary, and for us Lightheads that can often add much to our enjoyment. His 2 3/4 minute (total) monologue before and after Echoes of Heroes is priceless.

I have this entire young Gordon Lightfoot bootleg recording. He and his guitars, also priceless is when he says "Im sorry" to forgetting the words to "Ribbon Of Darkness."

Forgetting the words to a song you wrote is a fact of life for songwriters. It's harder for them than for singers who learn songs written by others.

Billy Joel tells a funny story about how he watches the lips of people in the audience when he forgets the words to a song, but when he forgets the words of We Didn't Start The Fire, he is on his own!

The only change with Gord over the decades is that 95% of the time when he forgets the lyrics, he masterfully fakes it (with a smoothly executed mumble). Only when he forgets something at the very beginning does he start over. And today, he laughs it off, while when he was just starting out he worried about it more (as any young artist would).

He is a wonderful live performer. I've seen him several times over the years. And he is one artist that Doug and I both like!

The problem with WDSTF is that it is sung so fast, lip reading is pretty much impossible!

A little help here ?????
I've logged in to this site, and in attempting to download....
I'm greeted with the line "HungerCity is a BitTorrent tracker for audio and video recordings of independent origin....."
I've come to a question: What in the name of Billy Bub is "torrent"? and how do I get it to play????
Answer this and I'll tell you who Billy Bub is!
