If i could make a setlist for a one in a life-time Gordon show, it probably looks like this (mixing the classics with the rarities):
SPANISH MOSS
DON QUIXOTE
MIGUEL
AFFAIR ON 8TH AVENUE
BEAUTIFUL
GHOSTS OF CAPE HORN
SUNDOWN
CAREFREE HIGHWAY
RAINY DAY PEOPLE
THAT SAME OLD OBSESSION
LAST TIME I SAW HER
SHADOWS
THE WRECK OF EF
(break)
RACE AMONG THE RUINS
LOOKIN AT THE RAIN
SATURDAY CLOTHES
DREAM STREET ROSE
IF CHILDREN HAD WINGS
IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND
EARLY MORNING RAIN
(bis)
ON THE HIGH SEAS
PUSSYWILLOWS CAT-TAILS
CANADIAN RAILROAD TRILOGY

Maybe the only way is to ask Gordon if i can rent him for just one night!

Hi Max,
do you have any favorites from Painter Passing Through, or any of the later albums? Just wondering

Yes bjb, i love a lot of recent song, particularly "Restless", "Drifters" and all the "Harmony" album that, believe me or not, is one of my Gordon's favourites albums.
But remember that i make my dream setlist not only with my favourites at all; for example, "Sundown" is not one of my favourites, but i sure want to hear it if i'm at a Lightfoot concert!
Lookin' at the setlists of the first three shows, i saw that Gord keep the standard-show of the previous years.
I also think that there's a group of songs that Gord don't play since a long time: i mean "Affair", "Pussywillows", "Last time i saw her".....and so on.
These are all gems that are even better than the songs that Gord still play, so i hope that he'll play a few them on this comeback tour.
I think that this tour could bring to Gord the possibility of re-cover all his repertoire, it could be a gift to his fans and to himself too.

But finally, i understand how hard can be choosin one song or another for a show, when you have written all this beautiful songs.....

Dear Alltaupe,
your dream set-list is even crazier than mine!
I don't want to break your dreams, but i have to tell you that you have NO chances to hear a show like this!

Quite a joke, eh?
I'm impressed from your choices, there aren't the most popular Gordon songs.....you choose mostly the 80's songs.
I'm also glad to see that "On the high seas" is well loved by the hardcore fans!

Max - I still call it "On The T.V." - when I first heard someone say "On The High Seas" I had no idea what they were talking about. I love that song.

Well, Max, you did say these were to be "dream" set lists, right? If there were any chance in hell of hearing some of these songs, it wouldn't be a dream list.

Hi Max,

Yeah... I know.. I've never heard him do most of those songs in concert. All of my favorites are ones that never made it to the radio!

DSR and Shadows are my favorite albums.

And as far as "On The High Seas" - I love it so much that I made a counted cross stitch of a place that looked a lot like his home on Beaumont Rd.. Beneath it, in script, was "I don't want to own the key to some ghostly mansion were souls are set free." I sent it to the office but he thanked me in person. It was quite a moment.

Then I made a very elaborate one with the lyrics to "Forgive Me Lord" and he went wild for that one. I wish I knew how to post a picture! It was really beautiful..

It's so nice to have a place to go to find kindred souls.

Dear alltaupe,

I share your feelings for the song "On The High Seas." Such an incredibly beautiful melody coupled with wonderful lyrics. My only criticism of the song is that it is too short! GL should have written a third verse! I attended the Cerritos concert last month and was so surprised he played it. I have seen Lightfoot 14 or 15 times over the past 35 years and I had never heard him perform it in concert before. It was quite a treat to hear it live! I hope you get to hear it at Massey...and yes, it is wonderful to find kindred spirits that share an appreciation for the musical treasure that is Gordon Lightfoot.
