first off, would that Moxy recorded, "Gord's Gold" tune be considered a 'tribute' tune? lol

anyhow, i was thinking that there are almost enough Gord tribute songs now that a whole 'tribute', i mean a whole REAL 'tribute' CD could be done using the growing collection of GL tribute tunes

the first i ever heard was the Guess Who's "Lightfoot", i don't think george Hamilton IV did one, nor Tony Rice nor Mac Wiseman but then there's Wayne Francis's "Weaver of the Moonlight", Aengus Finnan's "Lightfoot", JP Cormier's new "The Poet" and i believe Cathy Cowette has one upcoming too! (called "Toronto in May" or "Massey in May" i think, should be great also )

so, i was also kinda thinking of personally styling one after that Carly tune...

...ya know, verse, "Well, you walked into that tribute, like you were just walking into any old pub" (i know, TOO many syllables, agh)

...then the chorus, "You're SO humble, you probably don't even think this song is about you" (i know, TOO many syllables again...ok, it needs some polishing )

Don't forget Ed Mullen and Matt Carl's "Courses" what a beautiful song/tribute and an interesting long distance collaboration.

Nice start to your song, jj! You'll find a way to eliminate some of those syllables

Toronto in May is an instrumental. I wrote it specifically to brainwash Valerie into going to Toronto in May. I will have to write a new one this year.
It has no lyrics, because as a lyricist, plain and simple... I just don't have it.

i also was just goofin of course with my parody tune (i got tired of parody pics i guess, lol) but i never knew that Carly tune was so controversial...hey, maybe they are all off track and it was actually about Gord when he was riding high in his heyday, lol

ok, i've solved the problem with the listener focusing on my problem with having far too many syllables by making it not rhyme whatsoever either...yup, a strategic distraction, one of my signature songwriting techniques, lol

ps) hey, the last original line of the tune talks of Saratoga! isn't that where more Lightheads did another fine GL tribute gig???

yeah, maybe that original tune wasn't about Warren Beatty or whoever at all! submliminally it actually WAS about Gord tributes...so there's no need for me to complete my lyrical parody after all

Yes, jj, Ed wrote the words as a poem expressing his feelings about what Gord and his music has meant to him over the years. He wrote it around the time of Lightfoot's birthday a few years ago and shared it with the NG. After reading the poem, Matt asked if he could put some music to it and the rest, as they say, is history

thanks for that, janice...wow, thinking back now, i believe i even saw it being performed on some vintage Lighthead homevideo footage that i was compiling years ago...now that i know the story it's a huge oversight that i didn't include it, sorry ...i hadn't recognized it at a GL cover so i bypassed it, but it sounded tasty enough to be one!

Yup, that was always my favorite line, something like, "You went up to Saratoga, and your horse naturally won". And it's the horses that drew me to Saratoga in the first place. The music scene was a nice bonus.
