To The Person Who thinbks that "the Castle" is one of Gord's weaker efforts. Bud and Travis put it one way, "Some people like steak that has to be chewed, and some like baby food, that doesn't. You take your choice." I was just thinking about that song the other day and was looking back on a time in folk music when people were at war with each other about who was a PURIST and who was a COMMERCIALIST. If you really look at the song, it was written in the rue purist form. The purpose of folk music was a means of communication back when not everybody could read and having a printing press in your back pocket was unheard of. The song is a brilliant example of the old trubador format which convied the history of the event and the human emotions surrounding it. I, myself have been singing the song for thirty years and have never failed to provke a tear from someone, and it is always requested by somebody in the audience. So much for the "WEAKER" work of Gord.
