The words sound like Lightfoot words, and the rhythm is a 3/4 time which Lightfoot uses a lot in songs like Edmund Fitzerald, Waiting For You, Triangle, A Tree To Weak To Stand, A Long Way Back Home, and so on. He could also do "Strange Currencies" another R.E.M. song in that same rhythm.
