Massey Hall.........
Spring of 1979. We were only married a year and a half. Did not have a lot of money. But, I said lets go up to Toronto and try to catch the show Saturday night.
We left Saturday morning (it takes about 6 hours with some pit stops from Cleveland.) not knowing even if we could get tickets.
We found Toronto to be enchanting. The people were very friendly.
They had tickets at the box office and they didn't even want to sell them. They were in the nose bleed section behind a pillar. Yes, behind a pillar. We bought 'em. I didn't care. We just wanted to hear him! Sure enough, we sat behind a pillar, could not see the whole stage, but he sounded great.
It was the first time I heard "Nova Scotia Farewell" and the place went crazy. I wonder if he will ever record that one. He does a fantastic job with it. Haunting....
Everything went so fine for that day, after the show we hung around and waited for him to come out. Believe it or not, we were the only people waiting for him outside.
The band must of went out another door, but GL's entourage included, among other people, his mother who we spoke to briefly and who was very nice and a typical mother. (I was sorry to hear that she passed away a few years ago.)
GL did not look too happy for whatever reason, but he did pose for a picture with me outside his limo.
So that was my first trip to Massey. Got tickets, saw the show, and for the first time got up close to GL. It was a very special day for us.
I was so excited, that I drove all the way home.
