Just an example of what we may be missing. This is Mr. Harison's response to my query about how the breakout success of "Sundown" affected him :
His response:
Sorry so long in responding...very thought provoking question! I guess when
one is in the middle of it all, one doesn't do a lot of reflecting about
"what was it like before this?" or "how has my life changed since?" As my
friend Roger, whom I have previously quoted in this thread, once said to me,
"Richard, it was a blur, wasn't it?"
The "drastic change in fortunes" went in many directions after IYCRMM and,
especially Sundown.:
1) Gord now had the means (and perhaps now the necessity) to expand the
band -- something he had wanted to do before.
2) Methods of transportation and sound requirements changed significantly
with the more to larger venues 2000 seaters to 16,000 seaters. When I was
first hired by Gord, the two of us used to meet at the office at 7 a.m. and
load his sound system into the back of his station wagon. Then off to the
airport to meet up with Red & Rick. But after Sundown, I had to contract
sound companies and oversee the more complex setups. (Ironically, lighting
requirements did not significantly upsize, except that the addition of Pee
Wee and Barry meant more instruments were needed, but the basic concept
remained the same: subtle and intimate (the way Gord & I liked it)
3) And, yeah, there was more money.
