Here's a wildcard shot JJ:

If he is still recording in good voice,
(hold the laughs at first in the peanut gallery) - Roger Whittaker, recording first The Wreck, and if he could pull it off without messing with it too much, his deep bass voice would serve the song well.

Second, I'd want to hear him try CRT for the same reasons ( you'd have to hear his "water Boy") to know why this would be a good possibility.

And, I'd like to hear the Boss give Sundown a try. He's got the raw edge that could really make this fun.

Lastly, and this is embarrasing because I can't for sure remember his name ( my wife bought me the CD for my birthday and is in the car now) I believe his name is Andre Bocelli, a phenomenol artist I'd never heard of until ole' David Foster produced his signature album (perhaps state-side only,as he's long enough in the tooth I do not think he can be a new discovery).

He has an outstanding voice, truly, and I heard him , thanks to David Foster I'm sure, on a TV commercial promoting his new signature album, and I said "I gotta get that album" to my wife.

He has the first voice I thought could cover Gord's slower romantic ballads such as IYCRMM, with healthy vibrato and enough character.

I thought of Michael Buble, the young crooner all the ladies are going ga-ga over; he sounds to me sort of like Harry Connick just before puberty(who I heard helped encourage his career) in the oldies standards arena and new big band.

He does have a good voice, but as of my only CD listen does not have a mature enough voice to do justice to Gord's historically deeper register. So, my next thought then is Andre Bocelli (sp?) covering "Beautiful", or IYCRMM, or that "Same Old Obsession".

Hey, lastly, how 'bout Hoyt Axton, who has done an entire GL tribute album, cover "Whispers of the North", and "Sea of Tranquility" ? Actually, he's one of my favourite cover artists for Gord's work, and also is a respectable songwriter himself. Good thread JJ
