You may note on his web site that the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame did better by Oscar than the US one did by Lightfoot! Kudos to the Canadians for being perceptive.

Oscar Brand is a folk legend in his own right. His contributions to music (and to Sesame Street) put him up there with the greats, yet he is known mostly by his peers (i.e., folk songwriters). He was a victim of the McCarthy era, and blacklisted. Spent many years in Canada, and met Lightfoot during that time. He is still active (in his 80s!), performing and hosting a long running radio show in NYC (which I attended when I was 3! My mother knew him from Brooklyn College).

I was lucky to meet him in person when I went down to Washington DC for the 2005 WFMA concerts.
