I just got in from a 2 hour drive from Long Island, so this will probably be short.
Diane drove down from NH to meet me at my house, and after working a 5 hour day, I met her and off we went. I was sort of worried I'd be pooped since I'd been up early and working, but got my energy back on the drive to Peekskill.
We checked in to a hotel, had a great dinner, tarted ourselves up, and off we went.
Downtown Peekskill is a bit "econommically challeged", but the theater there was just beautiful, and painstakingly renovated. I love that cities are doing this, and trying to revitalize downtown areas. This was the first time I'd seen the road blocked off for a GL concert, but it was sort of nice, gave it a festive feel.
We went inside, and were dissapointed that our seats were up on the balcony. I knew I hadn't gotten the best seats, but didn't realize they were so high up. It was a sold out theater, so we took our seats and waited. It actually was unpleasent sitting up there, felt like a bad airplane, as there wasn't even enough room to put your kness straight. Downstairs it was spacious, but not so good upstairs. Ok, I'm finished whining about the seats! On the up side, the sound system was just wonderful up there, and it afforded a good view of the stage.
GL came out to a very receptive crowd, and started right in. The set list was:
Cotton Jenny
Carefree Highway
Sea of Tranquility
14 Karat Gold
Never Too Close
In My Fashion
A Painter Passing THrough
Rainy Day People
Shadows
Beautiful
The Watchman's Gone
Ribbon of Darkness/Sundown
Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Intermission. GL said they were taking a 20 min. break, maybe 22 mins, so if you had any talking or schmoozing to do, get it over in 20 minutes!
The second set was stronger, and started with:
Triangle
Hangdog Hotel Room
Restless
Clouds of Lonliness
Waiting for You
Make Way for the Lady
IYCRMM
Don Quixote
Early Morning Rain
Encores;
Blackberry Wine
Old Dan's Records
I usually find there are one or two stand outs during a show, and this night it was Restless and Waiting for You that did it for me. It was a much better show in my ears than the Torrington show, but that might have been my mood as well. This time I was on a road trip (albeit a short one!), with one of my favorite sidekicks, and we were going to two concerts. WHat could be better!
We also had the unexpected pleasure of running into 2 other Lightheads, and meeting a couple of new ones. There was a woman sitting up in the balcony with us that was very enthusiastic, which made us enjoy it even more.
We got some sleep and headed off the next morning to the Westbury show
