I was surfing and ended up at songwritershalloffame.org. So I browsed to see who was in it, and much to my dismay I saw who wasn't. Believe it or not, Mr. Lightfoot has NOT been inducted into the National Academy of Popular Music's Songwriter's Hall of Fame. He is, of course, in Canada's songwriter's hall of fame, as he should be, but I was stunned. Ruling out the possibility that maybe NAPM's hall is limited to Americans, I scanned further and found the likes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who are not American. So it is open to international writers. Bob Dylan has been inducted. Why should Mr. Lightfoot not be, and how can we see that he is properly nominated?
