I used to like the Gord's Gold version the best, but later changed my mind to the original. I find he has a really raw expressiveness to his voice on that early 1966 version. I can almost "be" on the runway.
I believe this is one of his greatest songs. Its simple structure and beautiful melody coupled with its driving rhythm, make it a great folk song. The song also sets a time and a place that is long past now. Just the mention of the "big 707 set to go" gives me the chills.
