I heard another one too, the singing is the wind whistling through the ship's rigging.
There's a fountain in Chicago that portrays the Great Lakes as female figures in classical dress. Superior stands above the other four and they all hold shells of water. It's "fountain of the Great Lakes" by Lorado Taft, built in 1913.
