They've got Lightfoot covered

He's been covered by Elvis, Lou Rawls, the Butthole Surfers and even La Streisand. Canadian folksinging legend Gordon Lightfoot hasn't had a bona fide radio hit in 25 years, but his oeuvre lives on in the voices and instruments of an eclectic crew. Which is a good thing, because while a songwriter's reputation is built on the quality of the songs, his fortunes are made off the other artists who record them. Here's a sample of some of the more outstanding and/or unusual covers of Lightfoot songs released over the years by performers in every genre: mainstream pop and country, cabaret and folk-rock, skiffle and avant-garde, punk, grunge and disco.
