Highlights week 28 February to March 11th 2004
NEWSGROUP
The linus web site apparently now has an extract from the liner notes for Harmony
see the thread subject "harmony fever" at
http://www.newsgroup.shorturl.com
this followed another new harmony-related thread "Welcome to Orillia........" started by an ex-pat son of Orillia now in Sweden
and some initial reviews in another suitably titled thread "harmony preview"
which included a posting by Doug Kirk to his own web site's inclusion of the harmony album artwork
CORFID
Over at the corfid discussion Forum two stalwarts there continued to provide some stirring topics
"Borderstone" (Walter Lamont) wanted to know how anxious we were regarding the release of Harmony and afterwards he through
a third party (thank you brink) sent me a fine picture of himself which is now on display at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002059.html
I intend to incorporate a rogue's gallery on my Webring page when I get around to rewriting it
(and completing the reorganisation of the webring that I have been trying to get back to for yonks)
and have therefore in that topic asked for fans to send me a recent picture.
Our young Georgian Dunkin' Douglas (DMD3) started a nice topic asking readers
"Give me a list of all the GL songs you have heard on the radio" which will get us old-timers scratching our heads!!
talking of pictures as I was
"Bruna the Beautiful Blonde Brit" was recently over here and in her travels discovered literally almost by accident the
township of Lightfoot in Virginia. She is prettily pictured at Lightfoot at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002074.html
and yet another swooning female from the UK Gaby
had the temerity to ask:-
"So, which song do you know Gordon Lightfoot wrote for you?"

--------------------------------------------------
And now the sorry tale of the chat room or rather the lack of it:-
Well I have no real idea why the usual chat room failed the last two weeks but the link no longer works via the IRC server
cjb.net that Rik originally set his chat room up with, nor was it possible to get the simpler non-IRC access via the browser.
I consulted mIRC help and the advice seems to be to try another IRC sercver of which there are a large and varying number
listed in a drop down menu above the mIRC's "connect to IRC Server" button.but one I successfully tried two weeks ago DLnet.net
is not listed on the old mIRC version that Susan is using.
Eventually last week after I had made contact with Cathy by IMing her we roped in her son Matt who obviously knows a thing or
two about IRC and he set up gordonlightfootchat to open using EFnet as the IRC server.Indeed 4 of us were able to meet in what
seemed to be the identical layout that we are used to using mIRC.
BUT he does not think it is possible to get in via one's browser which rather negates that solution for now as several
chatters who do not want to get involved with installing the superior mIRC and therefore will wish to continue using the
browser method. So that way is out. Now Rik ran into the problem of reluctance to go 100% with mIRC some years ago and was
trying to set up an alternative using the free chat facilities offerred by bravenet. (free but pop-up advert prone)
So there is a link already on his web site to his bravenet room (see below)
I have now been able to initiate my own bravenet room (see below also)
But as yet I have not been able to discover if a bravenet room can be accessed via mIRC.
I will be contacting Matt shortly to see if he knows how to do that
So for the moment i.e. this evening we will meet in Rik's existing room at:-
http://pub41.bravenet.com/chat/show.php/3487845653 at 9pm EST
if you wish to do a quick check on my proposed new room as it is go to:-
http://pub33.bravenet.com/chat/show.php/2750193584
Neither room as far as I can tell is actually located in a "pub"
OK that's it for another week
