UPDATE from Nicholas Jennings: It’s official: the Sam the Record Man sign will have a new home at Yonge-Dundas Square.
City council voted this morning to have the iconic neon sign reassembled on the roof of 277 Victoria Street, a city-owned building on the east side of the square, and have Ryerson University pick up the bill.
Council also voted to ensure that any future owner of the building take on the preservation of the sign.
The decision passed with a vote of 28-1.
Thanks to everyone who supported this campaign. It’s a good day for Toronto's cultural heritage.
