It's not you Dan who is losing it here is the posting that contained that "interview" that you recalled.
As one time heavy smoker until over indulgence caused a blockage in a neck artery that gave me a luckily not too severe stroke over twelve years ago (not even a whiff of tobacco since) then I have to say that the news our tres Charmont moderator reported sounded a trifle unlikely.

also mentioned his hearing:
