Default Re: 1975 Rolling Thunder Review audio - Lightfoot

A few comments are in order here:-
Firstly and most importantly the mediafire link provided by Char now produces this result
"Invalid or Deleted File
The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire"
I suspect however that when the file was available it was a zip or rar archive containing lossily compressed mp3s
Before I found that the file was AWOL I was preparing a reply to point out that if you would prefer top quality files the same set is currently available as a well seeded torrent on dime in the format that that site insists on the losslessly compressed FLAC
(Free Lossless Audio Codec).
I have made the following notes with a view to one day writing them up as a tutorial and will pass them on for what they are worth
(no snide comments from unrespectful Aussies thanks!)
there are still a few grey areas that I need to sort out but the following should enable you to acquire the files, listen to them on your computer and burn to a CD
To download these you need to register as a member at
http://www.dimeadozen.org then sign in and search for plain "lightfoot"
you will find the Rolling Thunder torrent as the second of 19 GL torrents listed there at the moment
clicking its link when you are signed in opens
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=396918
You will then need to install a tracking program I recommend utorrent (where u=micro the program is a staggering 320KB) but as the later versions have "issues" get the older version (2.04) from
http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php?...nt=35?download
as far as the resulting Flacs go
FLAC's main info page is at:-
hhttp://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html
Having labouriously acquired the flacs you can then:-
1 convert them to regular wavs using the program flac front end together with the actual DOS command line program flac.exe
where "front end" means it is a GUI (Graphical User Interface Char) to make it easier to use the actual DOS program flac.exe
2 play it on your computer using Windows Media Player or any other flac enabled player you might have installed thereupon
to use WMP you will need the flac codec the easiest way is to install the K-lite Codec Pack from:-
http://www.free-codecs.com/download_...p?d=6746&s=775
right click and save target as to get the full 16.3MB installation file
make sure the full 16.3Mb downloads (I repeatedly got a useless 104KB partial file)
during installation you should see a check boxes for flac

3.Eventually you will probably want to burn a pukka audio CD from these files
Several CD burning programs have a built in converters to convert mp3s flacs etc to CD format wav files.one I often use is burrrn (yes three "r"s)
from:-
http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=6m

and here ar the 7 flacs from Rolling Thunder prior to conversion and burning a CD
