Re: New Bedford
Sooo, the concert started out just like any other. Carter seems to blend right in, and is obviously emotionally invested in the music. I'll write more about that when I am home and type up some notes on the Keene concert. Forgive typos, I only have a brief time here before I have to hit the road.
Gord started off with:
Sweet Gunivere
Cotton Jenney
14 Karat Gold
Never Too Close
In My Fashion (crowd loved that one)
A Painter Passing Through
Let it Ride - he had a false start here, stopped and started again.
Christian Island
Shadows
Beautiful - Carter is doing something different here which I really like
Carefree Highway
Hangdog Hotel Room
Ribbon of Darkness
Sundown
Watchman's Gone - after this he announced that they had a new lead guitar player as Terry is no longer with us. No other explaination
Alberta Bound - Great solos by Carter and Mike, very well synched considering it was only the 10th concert for them together
Intermission
The first set seemed longer than most, 17 songs, but then I rarely count them. Everything was going well. I should mention now that there was a bar in the theater......
2nd set starts, and Gord is doing Wreck. The crowd is laughing, and I can't figure it out. I look at the people next to me and they can't tell why either. Some of the band is glaring out towards the audience, but I was 9 rows back and couldn't tell what was going on. I got filled in later about it. During Wreck, a woman came down to the front of the stage and was waving a piece of paper for Gord to sign. He ignored her, security was no where to be found, so she sort of hunched down, wriggled around, and then took off and threw her bra on the stage!
Remember, we are all of a certain age, and this was not a pretty lacey one, but one of those white industrial strength ones!!! Gord is still up there trying to tell us how 29 men died! He gets through the song, and picks up the bra. He holds it, looks at it, starts laughing, and as he puts it down, says "you can claim it after the show!" As he puts it down on one of the moniters, he does a final little drop and backs away, like he's scared of it. I was dying!! Now I never take pictures during a show, but had just taken a couple without flash to see if I could from that far back, and I still had my camera in my hand. I have a couple of slightly blurry ones that hopefully I'll be able to post.
Back to the woman....She is still down there, waving her paper. Gord has been ignoring her and goes right into
Ringneck Loon
Don Quiote - She's still there
Clouds of Lonliness - written for my second old lady right before she left me
Let it Ride - I'm thinking, oh good this is Ricks solo, wait, does he have two solos now cause i think I've already heard him do one. I check my notes, nope, they did do this first half!
If Children Had WIngs
IYCRMM - crowd loved it
Now the woman has been down there the whole time. She gets tired of being ignored, says "oh f**k it" and vaults herself onto the stage! This is the first I've seen of her. The crowd starts booing, she turns to hush them up, and marches up to Gord to have him sign her paper. He does, everyone is looking for security, and then she starts looking at the band like she wants to get their autographs too! She turns to Carter (I found out later she says) "that's my bra" He says "You better take it then" She says "you want it?" "No thanks". She grabs the bra, stuffs it into her back pocket, then finally jumps off the stage. Security finally arrived, and started chasing her around the perimeter of the theater! It was like a bad silent movie at that point!
I've never seen anything like this, hope that someone caught it on video!!
Gord starts again,
Restless - flawless! Don't know how one goes from that chaos on stage to delivering an ethereal song like that so well.
Baby Step Back - says it's a walking song, and starts singing it sofly while doing a little walk. Gord does start laughing during one of the versus after he sang Baby step back...maybe he should have sung that when she was on stage?
Early Morning Rain
Encore
Rainy Day People
Waiting for You
What a night!!! The audience was far rowdier in the second half, there was a couple of women about 4th row that were really whooping it up the last three songs. Naturally security was on them! It was just wild.
I will try to post my pics before I leave for the Torrington show, but it may have to wait.
Onward!!!
