Default Re: Which GL recordings are "Storytelling" songs

good ones, brannah, thx

well, i always thought Go Go Round would make for an image filled video

speaking of stories, i was listening to Robbie Lane ( he still performs http://www.robbielane.com/ ) 60's at 6 show on 740AM radio, and he told a few anecdotes....one was of his going to see the Beatles first appearance in Toronto and he said thy couldn't hear a single musical note during the entire short set, other than girls screeeeaming....by 'they' he meant he and Ronnie Hawkins...so many years ago

oh, back to my point: then he played Go Go round and told how he used to know the dancer (from the Brass Rail) that Gord wrote about...he said that Gord was well acquainted with her during those times but they were never involved as such...he mentioned her 'stage' name but i don't recall it

anyhow, he said it was a sad story (just like the song itself) and they learned that months later she took her own young and troubled life...i guess this happened after the song was already complete or it would have made for an even more heartbreaking last verse

anyhow, thought i'd pass that along for you to keep in ming during next listen....i remember when Blue Rodeo brought it out as a cover on the tribute album, Gord commented how he no longer liked that song... although he did include it on Songbook
