I don't think he meant that literally . . . I took it to mean that a weekend of listening to Sundown and similar fare (For Lovin' Me, perhaps) reveals an author that is oversexed, drunk, and angry. Clearly, Gord doesn't have the baggage or desire to write those songs today. He has great writing range and the songs that vent those particular emotions represent only a small, albeit important, part of his back catalogue. It's a shame that the critic didn't choose to balance his observations by remarking that only a truly gifted artist could write both Sundown and Beautiful. A Lightfoot concert is a train ride across many vistas.
