Re: talk of GordonLightfoot on Jimmy Fallon show
Late night Hosts
Ah... to be consistently good... That's the story..... one day, one week, one year, or in some cases many years does not a great talk show host make.
I still miss Johnny Carson. But even before that, going back to the original Tonight show,
Steve Allen, followed by Jack Paar, where you could actually learn things at times. It seems like the hosts today are more interested in presenting themselves instead of being interested in the guests and viewers.
I don't watch much of late night tv anymore. It just seems to be going more and more downhill with every year and every new host. I'm sure each of the shows has it's moments. But my feeling is that any network that would be smart enough to rerun episodes of Johnny Carson would clean up in the ratings. So much of the so called humor is either so juvenile or so mean spirtited, I just don't see the appeal of it. The doesn't seem to be any wit about it.
By the way, I do know one of the executive producers on Letterman's show.Matt's been working with Letterman since 1992, writing, producing, etc. He comes back to the Quad-Cities at Christmas and eats Christmas dinner with us at my financee's mother house.(His father and my fiancee's mother are involved as very good friends) He's always filling us in about the show, who he recently met etc...Could be some interesting talk this year. Other than Matt there aren't any real Letterman fans around the table.
