Gordon Lightfoot, seen in July 2005, will hit the road next spring at the age of 71.

PICTURE AT LINK (Canadian Press)Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian folk troubador who turns 71 later this month, is planning a 12-city tour of Eastern Canada next spring.

The tour includes two nights at Ottawa's National Arts Centre in next April as part of the NAC's 40th anniversary season and one night at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ont.

The singer-songwriter also plans stops in St. John's, Corner Brook, N.L., Halifax, Moncton, Saint John, Quebec City, Montreal, Kingston, Peterborough and Hamilton, Ont.

Lightfoot, whose hits include Sundown, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Early Mornin' Rain and If You Could Read My Mind, is in his fifth decade of touring.

His soulful vocals continue to pack halls. He toured extensively in 2008 after a three-year hiatus because of poor health.

Lightfoot has won 15 Juno Awards and been nominated for five Grammy Awards.

He also lays claim to a record number of solo appearances at Toronto's Massey Hall and continues to up the ante with a four-night stint starting Nov. 18. He first played there in 1967.
