Lightfoot delivered

Two Fridays before the Gordon Lightfoot concert, I married my high school sweetheart in Reykjavik, Iceland, 37 years after our first enchantment.

The next two weeks were spent touring the "Lord of the Rings-like" majestic Icelandic countryside accompanied by a Gordon Lightfoot CD.

Gordon's performance at Essar on April 18 was delicate and we were humbled by his ability to still bring his music to stage. Lightfoot's aged physique could only attempt to foil his plan to deliver a great performance.

The essence of Gordon Lightfoot prevailed and age simply became a seasoning to the voice of a truly great Canadian folk music artist.

As we travelled through Iceland and became saturated with the Icelandic residents' love for retro-'70s music, we would instead play Gordon's Complete Greatest Hits CD. Sundown and Rainy Day People recounted events of our trip but Beautiful was the most poignant.

My tears acknowledged who is so beautiful as she sat beside me enjoying the concert, just as she did on our venture through Iceland and just as she will do as my wife while our journey through life continues.

Thanks to Gordon for a lovely cap to our adventures. I give the concert 4/4.
