Re: Grateful new member
I'd be happy to.
In 1974, I was at a campfire ring seaside in San Diego. There were a few guitar players there (as there always were) and we were entertaining each other and the locals . I had finished singing a song I had written when one of the group said, "you sound a little like Lightfoot. I had never heard of G.L. at the time and asked who he was. They told me he had written a song called "If You Could Read My Mind", and it had been a big hit. I heard it one day on the radio and loved it. I bought the album, "Sit Down Young Stranger, and after playing it once, went out and bought Don Quixote, and I believe it was Sundown, his most recent at the time.
I learned to play his songs, and they fit my vocal range perfectly, though years of bad habits have taken their toll as of late. I do not believe he ever got enough respect in the states, but he remains (in my mind) one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our time.
And that's that.
Thanks for asking..
