I just stumbled on this thread and like it a lot!

One word I always thought added such imagery is in Home From the Forest.
"She touched his grizzled fingers and she called him by his name." ~GL

And from Fine as Fine Can Be (written for his daughter I believe)
"You're like bees are for buzzing, you're as fine as fine can be." ~GL
