OTTAWA – Canada Post says Bryan Adams and Stompin' Tom Connors will be featured in its 2009 stamp program as part of its Canadian Recording Artists series.
New Brunswick singer-songwriter Edith Butler and Quebec's Robert Charlebois will also be honoured.
Stamps featuring the singers will come out in June 2009.
To celebrate Black History Month next February, Canada Post will issue two stamps – one with Abraham Doras Shadd – reportedly the first black person to hold political office in Canada – and the other with Rosemary Brown, the first black woman elected to public office.
Other stamps will show Arctic explorer Captain Robert Bartlett, abstract expressionist Jack Bush, the first flight in Canada, the sacrifice of Canadian war heroes and Canadian inventions in sports including basketball and lacrosse.
Bob Waite with Canada Post says the mandate of the stamp program is to celebrate Canada and its diverse people, its major accomplishments, rich history, traditions and natural beauty.
