Last summer
Gordon Lightfoot was playing the final night of the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia, Ont., while
Bob Dylan was playing his second night at Casino Rama nearby.
The big rumour was that the songwriting giants might hook up, on or off stage at Mariposa, but it wasn't to be.
"He showed up all right but he didn't come in. There was a thunderstorm going on, they kept on, they were heading for Buffalo," Lightfoot said.
"I did not see him. Everyone was too busy.
"Everyone was doing their own thing that night. We might have connected had it not been for the thunderstorm."
Dylan has called Lightfoot one of his favourite songwriters and covered Lightfoot's Early Mornin' Rain for his 1970 album, Self Portrait.
He later inducted Lightfoot into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame in 1986.
(Guess Dylan isn't a 'Rainy Day Person']
