In addition to the overpopulation of deer and other wildlife (no natural 'predators' except us), there's been so much development in Connecticut and in what had once been considered fringe areas - forcing wildlife onto the highways and other developed areas. Wildlife simply do not have an uninterrupted habitat ANYWHERE here. We're inadvertantly creating 'edge' for deer and this 'edge' is harmful to them (and us!).

I saw an old newspaper from the early 1910's...that was BIG news! A herd of deer had been spotted in a small town in Eastern Connecticut. A subsequent article unfortunately reported that having heard the news of the deer - someone went out and hunted/killed them all.

Also, in the late 1920's -the 1st aerial deer count in our state...2!

Food (not venison though...not me anyway) for thought.
