interesting question and I wonder how the blond Brit will answer it.
Actually I believe that the advance effects of Global warming have been producing record high tempEratures the last few years
in the UK.I think I heard that in 2003 the very highest reading ever seen but on a not necesarily reliable recording device was
about 102 degrees F,then this year the highest ever July temp was something like 97 F
I am pretty sure that in the 50's when I were a lad anything over 80 was very rare.
Of course air conditioning in anything but stores is virtually unheard of,and I used to suffer as a representative out on sales calls wearing the regulation long trousers shirt with collar and of course a tie .Phew!
It was therefore agony after each customer visit to get back into a roasting car, but car aircon was growing in popularity.
I think some years ago all models of a certain Peugeot had aircon as standard. The last car I bought at an auction was locked when I looked at it but I noticed a sliding control against a temperature indication, and bought it on a hot day.
Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that it was not aircon but a constant heater outlet temperature control.Dang!
